Mr. and M rs. A. J. Rogers of
Towns, were pleasant visitors to
Alamo last Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Brown are
spending the week end on their
farm near Towns. They will
spend a portion of their time on
the banks of Gum Swamp, fish
ing.
The Stork left a twelve pound
girl at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
L. Purvis, one day this week.
The boys say that the dray busi
ness has been neglected con
siderably since the appearance
of the Stork.

Mr. J. H. Brown of Towns
was in Alamo Wednesday. Mr.
Brown is manager of the Clem
ents Trading Company, a new
firm opened up under the auspi
ces of Farmers co-operative as
sociation. They will handle a line
of general merchandise.
Dr. 0. W. Kennedy of Register
arrived yesterday, and has ac
cepted a position with the Alamo
Drug Company as prescription
clerk. He comes highly recom
mended.
Judge Kent has been invited
to deliver addresses at the fol
lowing places during the month:
At Cross Roads in Dodge county
today; the occasion being an
Odd Fellows celebration. He
will deliver an address at an edu
cational rally at Spring Hill on
the 16th inst.
A pleasant party of Alamoites
consisting of Mr. and Mrs. I.
Idelson and daughter, Rachel;
Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Hurwitz and
liftle daughter, Isther, left
Tuesday night over the South
ern railway for Jacksonville, to
take in the Confederate Reunion
and otherwise see the sights of
the Florida Metropolis. They
will return Saturday.

ed Mr. Harrison Sears on the
Oconee river Monday, where
they spent the day fishing, the
catch was fine. Carp and other
fish were caught, some weighing
20 pounds, and several baskets
laden with fish were brought
home to their families.

Death of J. C. Geiger
After suffering from a long ill
! ness James Corley Geiger, pro
prietor of the Geiger Hotel and
one of the best known hotel men
in this section of Georgia, died
early yesterday morning at his
hotel. He was 55 years old.
The Rev. Dr. W. L. Pickard,
pastor of the First Baptist
Church of Savannah, of which
Mr. Geiger was a member, con
ducted the services. Rev. John
Brewton of Mt. Vernon, acousin
of Mr. Geiger, assisted Dr. Pick
ard. Interment in Bonaventure
Cemetery.
Mr. Geiger was born in Effing
ham county in 1859. Earl.y in,
life he entered the newspaper
profession, and for a number of
years he edited the Baxley Ban
ner and the Baptist Watchman.
He gave up that work, however,
to go into the hotel business, in
whice he made a success. He
operated hotels at Helena,
Athens and Cordele. Four years
ago he came to Savannah and
took over the hotel on Broughton
street, east, which bears his
name.
Mr. Geiger has been in failing
health for a year, but had been
confined to his bed only ten
days He is survived by his wife,
Mrs Minnie Geiger; two daugh
ters, Mrs. Charles Cook and
Mrs. A. J. Stebbins of Savannah;
one son, Homer F. Geiger of Sa
vannah, and threegrandchildren,

Geiger of Mt. Vernon, J. J
Geiger of Hinesville and W. T
P. Geiger of Jessup and Mrs. L.
L Knight of Glennville.
Mr. Geiger wasa member of
the Georgia Hotel Men’s Associa
tion and of the Cracker Club.—

The deceased was a brother of
Mr. Jas. T. Geiger of this coun
ty, clerk-elect of the superior
court, and Col. J- B. Geiger of
Mt. Vernon who,with other rela
tives, have deep sympathy in
their bereavment.
Big Picnic At Spring Hill
On Saturday Mdy 16th, there
will be a picnic at Spring Hill
with an extended program from
9 a. m. to 10:30 p. m. Some able
speakers will occupy the pro
gram before noon on some very
interesting subjects, such as;

Macon. Good Roads, by Hon. W.
B. Kent of Aiatno, History of
Spring Hill High School, by

man.
The afternoon program will
consist of various field exer

ciative- The last part of the days
exercises will no doubt be wel

being a program by the Spring

Toombs County Primary
Lyons, Ga., May 6. —Toombs
county’s primary was held to
day. The unofficial count shows
that—R. J. Partin was elected
sheriff, Dess Gray clerk, J H.
Pughley tax collector, U. H, Par
tin tax receiver, J. T. Lewis
treasurer and R. D. Nobles cor
oner. About 1,400 votes were
cast.
The spring term of the Alamo
public school will close on the
12th inst. The new building is
expected to be completed for the
fall term, and the school will be
gin in earnest in Alamo.
Tha Methodist Sunday school
at this place is making elaborate
preparations for childrens day,
I which will be celebrated one day
in June. Program of the exer
cises will be announced later.

sentence of sixty days imposed
on P. C. Williams, a white man,
of Lyons, was set aside by Judge
John E. Schwartz, in the Police
Court, and he was released from
jail yesterday. It is said Wil
liams is prominently connected
in Lyons. He was found guilty
of disorderly conduct Monday.
