Alamo Defeats
Mt. Vernon 16 to 1
The Mt Vernon boys were
simply out classed in a pretty
game of ball here last Friday
afternoon. The final score being
16 to 1. Hartleys pitching was
the whole feature of the game.
He gave up only three hits, they
being mere scratches. He also
fanned 11 men. The Alamo boys
blayed good ball throughout the
game and but for one error they
would have shut Mt. Vernon out.
Mcßride played a good game
for Mt. Vernon behind the bat.
Score by innings:
Mt. Vernon-000 000 100—1
Alamo —OB2 282 022—16
Batteries for the teams were:
Hartley and Wrye for Alamo,
and Lanier and Mcßride for
Mt. Vernon.

Georgia Needs
A Young, Active and
Progressive Governor
If you were going to select a manager for your own
business, would you pick out a man of nearly three score
years and ten, who had not been in touch with it for twenty
years or more, or would you choose an active, progressive
and constructive business man who has been in direct touch
with your affairs for over a decade?
Randolph Anderson knows Georgia’s finances and Geor
gia’s needs. He has been in close touch with them and has
studied them the last ten years or more.
He is the only candidate who has offered a substantial,
progressive platform.
If you would vote for Georgia’s best interests—

Anniversary Sale
Opened at Idelson’s
When the doors were opened
at Idelson Department Store
last Saturday morning, custom
ers, who were waiting on the out
side, rushed in and the standing
room in the store was taken to
its capacity. The army of clerks
were kept in a rush throughout
the day.
This firm puts on a sale each
year at this season, and the pec
pie were on to it, and when the
date was announced prepara
tions to attend were made, and
they came on the opening morn
ing, and will continue to come
until it closes.
The manager, Mr. M. Idelson,
informs us that this sale is the
best in the history of the store,
and it is through his efforts that
this great volume of trade is in
duced to come to Alamo. It
comes from not only Wheeler,
but the adjoining counties Uis
way of going after basinessis
appreciated, and to him is due
the praise for the increased
business enjoyed by this firm,
by the use of printer’s ink.

New Bank Officials
Tank Charge Monday
The new officials of the Wheel
er County Bank were formally
inducted into office last Monday
morning, as follows: Dr. Truitt
H. Nelson, president and Mr. J.
N. Sears, vice president, Mr. O.
J. May, cashier, formerly cashier
of the Farmers and Merchants
bank at Milan. Mr. Lancaster,
former cashier of the Wheeler
County Bank, resigning.
The officers elected at the first
meeting of the stockholders were
declared the only legal officials
elected, and a satisfactory ad
justmet of the matter was reach
ed, and the bank starts on its
second year with the above
named officers at the helm.
Dr. Nelson, the president, has
the advantage of considerable
experience in banking, having
served the pastyear as vice-presi
dent of this bank, which fact
will enable him to render more
efficient service than he would
have otherwise been able to do.
Mr. Sears, the vice-president,
is one of the successful farmers
and business men of Wheeler
county, and no better man could
have been selected to fill this
office.
Mr. May, the cashier, has had
wide experience in banking. He
comes highly recommended, and
will always be ready to meet the
customers and friends of the
bank with an extended hand of
welcome.
The directors of the bank,
seven in number, are all gcod,
substantial business men, and
though the first year’s business
was good, the second year helds
out greater possibilities.
Town Again Called
to Vote on Bonds.
By reference to our columns
this week, will be found the ad
vertisements for an election to
again vote en the school and
water bond question, to be held
on the 9th day of September,
next.
This election is made neces
sary by reason of the fact that
the first bonds validated were
not in accord with a recent de
cision handed down from the
supreme court, which specifies
that they shall be validated in the
county in which they art voted,
when, as a matter of fact, these
were executed in Telfair county. I
The first bonds were bougut by 1
the Wheeler County Bank and ।
a considerable amount of the I
money had peen paid out before ■
the error was discovered, but
council got together and guaran-I
teed the money, and work on the
school building »8 progressing |
rapidly. The only thing left to I
be done is to do over what had ’
already been done, only have the |
bonds validated next time in j
Wheeler instead of in Telfair. |
Card of Thanks I
Through this medium, I wish |
to thank one and all of those
who were so kind to us during
the illness of my wife. Your £
kindness will ever be remem- f

HooA Worm Expert
Now in Wheeler
The hookworm campaign has
closed in Montgomery county.
During the first four weeks of
the campaign 2,065 persons were
examined, and 1,177 were found
infected and treated.
At the first meeting held in
this county by Dr. Whittle, which
was held at ErickTuesday night,
52 were examined for hookworm
and 42 of this number were found
to be infected. Everybody
should co-operate with Dr. Whit
tle and make this campaign
far reaching in the extermina
tion of the hookworm.
Dr. Whittle will be at the
following places all of Aug
ust in Wheeler county:
Erick every Tuesday; Spring
Hill every Wednesday morning;
J. T. Jordan’s every Wednesday
afternoon; Glenwood every
Thursday; Manning’s store ev
ery Friday and Alamo every
Saturday,
Bring or send to the nearest.
Dispensary a small portion of
the bowel actien in a tin box,
your nam and age written
plainly thereon. Specimen
containers can be had for the

places, drug stores or at a gen
eral store if there is not any drug
store. Wheeler County asks
your cooperation in stamping
out this dreaded disease.
Everybody should be examined
early in order to get all the
treatments if infected and be
examined again to see if they
are cured. One treatment will
do much good, but three are
needed.

how to keep well. The parasites,
pictures, and talks will interest
you. Ladies and children are
especially invited.
Remember that it is all free,

early death or a life of misery
which may result in making a

Judge Clements Talks
lo Wheeler Voters.
On yesterday afternoon, ob
schedule time, Judge Walter M.
Clements, candidate for Cong
ress, addressed a large number
of voters here. Long before the
conclusion of his speech threat
ening alouds arose, but gave
him time to hurriedly deliver
his message to the people. This
was the first time he had spoken
in Alamo, and his many friends
and supporters here were eager
to hear him.
Judge Clements is a native of
this county, and if for no other
reason, county pride will give to
him an overwhelming majority
of the votes cast in Wheeler
county o* August 19th. But the
people have other reasons for
voting for Judge Clements. He
is a man of ability, endowed
with the traits of character that
prompts noble deeds, and would
stand as a bright light in the
national halls of Congress.
