Farmers’ Cotton Con-
I
ference at Dublin.
* 1
Dublin, Ga , August 17, 1914
—A Farmers 'Jotton Conference
will be held in Dublin at 10 A.
M. August 25th. More than
anytbang else this is to be a
congress of the farmers of the
Twelfth District and will act as
a clearing house through which
this great cotton growing
sectoin can organize its aenit
ment and make a forceful
appeal to the Government at
Washington for immediate
relief.
The farmers and business
men of the Twelfth Dristrict
are invited to be present at this
meeting, but the farmers
particulary are urged to send
a large delegation from every
county in the Twelfth District.
When by conference a definite
and practical plain is outlined,
then it will be up to the farmers
to put the force of their
recommendation behind it if the
Government is to be succt ssfully
influenced to adopt such a
legislative measure.
Here in the midst of thiscrisis
is where the oft repeated
prophecy of Hon. C S. Barrett,
President of the National
Farmers Union, comes home
with telling force. With remark
able foreseeing Mr. Barrett has
urged that the day was liable
to come under unusual
disruption of normal channels
of trade, wheu the farmer
would suddenly wake up and
realize the over powering
necessity of organization and
co-operation.
Mr Barrett has repeatedly
said to the farmer, keep your
eyes on Washington, your best
interests are going to c >me
from the proper kind of national
legislation that will surround
the industry of the farmer with
a better chanes for success
and profrte. The European war
crisis has brought Mr. Barrett’s
p ophecy true.
Now is the time for the
farmers to put his sentiments
in an organized way to the
■Government at Washington,
and this is particularly true of
the Southern farmer with his
Ootton Crop for which there is
practically no Market at all. The
meeting at Dublin is the
farmer's opportunity to gather
and do his duty to himself and
the community.
The plan for financing Cotton
«nd getting immediate relief as
W«U *B methods for conserving
Cotton Seed will be the main
subjects for discussion. Presi
dent Barrett of the National
