Cotton Receipts
Owing to the depressed condition at
present, account of there being no
market for cotton, we will advance the
ginning, bagging and ties on all cotton
receipts deposited with this bank. This
will enable the farmer t) have his cotton
in warehouse ready for sale when the
market opens.

Lato dispatches tell of German suc
cess in Belgium. In a terific battle
which lasted'three days, the French
and British troops were defeated by
the armies of the Kaiser. The French
were compelled to rebreat from ter
ritory they had already gained in
Alrsca and Lorraine. You will get the

war news in the Eagle.
Now that the election is over,
and in a short while work will
begin on the court house, the
European war is all we have left

Cchange Schedule
The Seaboard Air Line railway an
nounces important changes contem
plated in its daily local train service
to and from Savannah, which will
eliminate the night train.
The railway, at the strong reccom
endation of Divison Passenger Ageut.
C. W. Small, announcesthat the night
passenger trains will immediately be
eliminated between Helena and Sa
vannah and in thetr place will be oper
ated the Savannah-Helena local, leav
ing the Union Station at 4. p. m.
daily and arriving at Helena at 8;30
p. m.; on the return trip leaving Hel
ena at r iO a. m. and reaching Savan
nah at 10. a. m. all Standard time.

Courthouse Awarded
To Atlanta Contractor
Mr. Heifner, contractor of
Atlanta, was on last Tuesday
awarded the contract to build
Wheeler’s court house. His was
thelowestbid submitted, being
$27,000, while they received them
as high as $32,000. Work will
begin as soon as the material
can arrive.
Kev Newton, an evangelist,
will begin a servis of services a
the Frewill Baptist church and
run through Sunday, if not
longer.
W. W. Pope Dead
On last Monday, after a long
illness, Mr. W. W. Pope died at
his home at Hinesville, in Liberty
county. Thongh his death had
been expectd for a l®ng time, it
came as a grate shock to his
faimly and friends. Mr. Pope
had reached his sixtieth birthday
and was a good man and will be
greatly missed. He is survived
by his wife, five daughters, and
two sons, Mrs. Lamar Sears of
this place being a daughter. The
remains were brought to Glen
wood* Tuesday and interred in
the cemetery at that place, Rev.
Euen conducted the funeral
serviesin the presence of a large
number of relatives and friends
of the deceased.

candidate for Treasurer for
Wheeler County in the next
Primary that is to be held two
years from now to nominate a
man for that offiice.
I wish to say to the people
that I have been in this sec
tion which was Montgomery
County, for the last twentv-five
years, and have been strongly
solicited from time to time by
my friends to run for this office,
but I have held back giving way
to others, and I now think that
my time has come, and I will be
glad for you to give my cadidacy
fail - and careful consideration.

Hogan-Barnhill.
A marriage of unusual interest
to the many friends of this
young couple, was that
solemnized at Glenwood last
Thursday evening at six o’clock,
the contracting parties being
Miss Flora Hogan and Prof.
Edwin Barnhill, Rev. L. A- Hill,
presiding elder officially. Mrs.
Barnhill is the fl^ractive
daughter of Mrs.C.B. tarnhill
of Glenwood and is very popular.
Prof. Barnhill is a son of Mr.
Perdie Barnhill of that place,
also a brother of Mr. Grover
Barnhill, Glenwood’s popular
rural mail carrier. They left for
their future home in Doerun,
where Prof. Barnhill will teach
in the public schools of that
place.
Mcßride-woodworth
At the home of the parents
of the bride, Mr. and Mrs.
John Mcßride, in this county,
on last Sunday, Miss Abbie
Mcßride and Mr. Ernest P.
Woodworth of Aiken. 8. C. were
united in marriage, Rev, Euen,
pastor of the Methodist church
officiated. Mrs. Woodworth is a
charming young lady and was
a favorite among the younger
set in her community. The young
couple left Monday morning for
their future home in South
Carolina.
Mr. Chas. W. Lancaster made
a business trip to Mcßae one
day this week.
