Mr, Joe Idelson of Doerun,
was a visitor to Alamo this week.
Mr. F- R. Mann of Jackonville,
spent several days of this week
in town.
Mrs. W. H. Spell and child
ren spent several day of this
week with relatives in Vidalia.
Miss Lillie Perdue has re
turned home after an extended
visit to relatives and friends in
Richmond county.
Miss Henrietta Clements of
Eastman, is the guest of Col.
and Mrs. Hamilton Burch.
Messsrs John W. Clements
and H. L. Sears attended the
state conventon in Macon this
week.
The farmers are having their
cotton ginned, those who have
not got room to house it in the
seed, and hauling it back home,
not even storing it in tiie ware
house. If they can hold out at
this, thev will regulate the cotton
market within themselves.
Mr, Mack Au Id returned home
this week from Savannah, where
he has been attending abuisness
school. He has accepted aposition
with the Bank of Alamo, and
will be pleased to meet his old
friends therr.
Will Daniels, white, confined
in the town calaboose here for
larcen', made his escape last
night. The lock on the door of
the house was broken off, and■
when the sheriff went down to |
feed his prisoner this morning:
he found his cell vacant and only
the broken lock was left to
mark his departure.
Mrs. C R. Outlaw presented
* us with a nice sample of her
sweet potato crop one day this
week Mrs. Outlaw claims th s
part of the farm as her own, and
is proud of the cuecess she has
had this season in raising po
tatoes. They are of very flue
variety and were enjoyed very
much by us,
Miss Josie Cameron, former
principal of the Alamo public
school. Came over from Mcßae
Tuesday afternoon and spent a
few hours with friends intown
Miss Cameron wil! leave in a
few' days for Adrian, where she]
will teach.in the public school at
that place.
Mr. I. Id-ls'n returned Sun
day from an extended visit to
the Eastern markets, whete he
secured m ny valuable bargains
in merchandise. The goods are
now arriving nn I will continue
to arrive until they all get here,
then the people of Wheeler
county will be given the oppor
tunity of shming in the values
he received while away.
Mr. C. C Peavy of Erick,
was in town th s morning. He
is not feeling so blue over the
war scare. He says that he
intends gathering his cotton
crop and store it away in the
seed until the situation clears
up some. He plants the Chris
topher’s big boll, and brought
to our office a stalk heavily
laden with fruit, after the dry
weather had caused a lot of it
to fall off.

Dr. Rackley was called to Mt.
Vernon last Thursday morning
to assist in replacing the jaw
bone and teeth of Mr. guard Hix,
a young man of that place who
fell from a wagon that loaded
with ice and one of the wheels
run overbid head, crushing the
skull to the extent that his brains
were exposed, The young man is
recovering, however, and not
withstanding his critical
condition, it is believed that he
will recover, and with the
exception of the scars, will be
Sound again.
Some dissatisfaction arose
over the delegates that were
appointed by the executive
committee in session on the2oth,
and a mass meeting was held
last Saturday night when
delegates were appointed to
represent Wheeler county at the
state convention in Macon last.
Tuesday. Messrs H. L. Sears
and W. Henry Clark, with
Messrs Herchel Kent and K. N.
McLennan, alternates were first
appointed. Those appointed by
the mass meeting were Messrs
S E. Mauney and D. R, Jackson
with Judge Wm. B. Kent and
K. N. McLennan as alternates
The delegates appointed by the
mass meeting were recognized,
however, and as Messrs Mauney
and Jackson did not go Judge
Kent and Mr. McLennan cast
Wheeler’s two votes in the
convention.

bonds shall be issued by the Town of
Alamo in the sum of Seven Thonsand
. and Five Hundred Dollars ($7,500,000),
for the purpose of purchasing a suita
ble lot for School Buildings and ereet
ingthereon School Buildings thorough
ly equipped for school purposes.

TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF
THE TOWN OF ALAMO:
Notice is hereby given that on the
9th day of September, 1914, an election
will be held at the usual place of hold
ing elections in the Town of Alamo, a;
which will be submitted to the quali
fied voters of said town, for their de
terminotion, the question whether
Bonds shall be issued by the Town of
Alamo, in the aggregate amount of
Seven Thousand, Five Hundred Dol
lars ($7,500.00), for the purpose of
purchasing a suitable lot for School
Buildings, and erecting thereon School
buildings thoroughly equipped for
school purposes; said bonds to bear
date of January Ist. 1914, (or as soon
thereafter as the same may be vali
dated); to bear interest at the rate of
six (6) per cent, per annum, payable
semi-annually on the first day of Jan.
and July in each year; to be in denom
inations of Five Hundred Dollars
($509.00) each; the entire principal
amount of said bands to become due
and payable thirty (30) years from
date of issue; principal and interest to
be paid in gold coin of the United
States, of the present standard of
weight and fineness, at the office of
some financial institution in the City of
New York, State of New York.
Polls will be open at ten o’clock, a.
m., and close at three o’clock, p. m.,
at the Justice Court House in said town
Those desiring to vote in favor of the
issuance of said bonds will do so by
casting ballots having written orprint
ed upon them the words "For School
Bonds’’, and those desiring to vote
against the issue of said bonds will do
so by casting ballots having written or
printed on them the words "Against
School Bonds. ’’
Said election will be held as provided
for by Section 440, 441, 442 and 443 of
the Code of the State of Georgia, and
all laws amendatory thereof, and in ac
cordance with the provisions of the
Act approved August 16th, 1913, and
with the ordinance of said town rela
tive to elections.
Said election to be called and is
called by virtue of an ordinance passed
by the Mayor and Council of Alamo on
the 3rd day of August, 1914, which
Ordinance is hereby made a part of
this notice and is as follows, to-wit:
ORDINANCE ADOPTED BY THE
MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF ALAMO
AUGUST 3rd 1914.
Whereas, An Act to establish a sys
tem of Public Schools in the Town of
Alamo, Georgia, and to provide for a
I Board of Education of Alamo, and for
; other purposes, was duly approvtd on
1 August 16th, 1913; and
Whereas, at an election held in the
Town of Alamo on September 24th,
11913. said Act was duly ratified by the
qualified voters of said town; and
Whereas, said Board of Education ot
Alamo has been duly elected and quali
fied, and has duly recommended the
issuance of School Bonds in the sum
of Seven Thousand, Five Hundred
Dollars, and that the question of their
issuance be submitted to the legally
qualified voters of the Town of Alamo
at an election to be held for that
purpose; and
Whereas, by the provisions of said
Act approved August 16th. 1913, it is
made the duty of the Mayor and Coun
cil of Alamo to order said election:
Now, therefore, be it ordained by the
Mayor and Council of Alamo, and it is
hereby ordained and ordered by the
authority of the same, that an election
be called and hela for the purpose of
submitting to the qualified voters of
said town the question whether bonds,
in said agg egate sum of Seven Thou
sand, Five Hundred Dollars shall be
issued by the Town of Alamo for the
purpose of purchasing a suitable lot
for School Buildings and erecting
thereon School Buildings thoroughly
equipped for school purposes; that
such election be held on the 9th day
of -September, 1914, in the Justice
Court House in said town, subject to
the rules and regulations governing
(elections tor Mayer and Aidermen of
said town, and the qualifications of
voters shall be the same; and that a
notice of el'ction be publiohed thirty
(30) days next preceding the day of
electin'' in the Wheeler County Eigle,
said notice to be as above set forth.
it further ordained, that all laws
and parts of laws of said town in con
flict with th’s ordinance be and the
same are hereby repealed.
