M. J. Paulk Formally
Nominated Senator.
Helena, Ga., Sept. 18, 1914
The delegates appointed by
the chairman of the democratic
executive committee from the
counties composing the 15th
senatorial district, upon the call
of the senator elect, M. J. Paulk
of Ocilla, met in executive ses
sion at Helena on the 1 Hth inst.,
for the purpose of formally nomi
nating the Hon. M. J Paulk,
senator-elect from the 15th
senatorial district.
Upon motion, Hon. Tom Eason
of Mcßae, was elected chairman
and O. J. Franklin of Eastman,
was elected secretary. The ob
ject of the meeting being stated
by the chairman the roll was
called, and the delegates from
the followingcounties responded:
Ben Hill, Drew Paulk; Dodge,
0. K. Bennett and O. J. Frank
lin; Irwin, T. L. Purvis and J. L.
Paulk; Montgomery, L. C. Under
wood; Telfair, Tom Eason and
Robert Tompkins; Wheeler, no
delegate.
The name of Hon. M. J. Paulk
was placed in nomination and
_ unanimously voted upon as the
senator-elect for the ensuing
term for the 15th senatorial
district. Messrs Paulk and
Underwood were appointed as a
committee to notify senator-elect
Paulk of his nomination and to
escort him to the room, after
which he made A short, but point
ed talk, impressing upon the
members the fact that he would
be the senator of the whole dist
rict and not simply the senator
for the county from which he
was nominated.
Upon motion the following
persons were e'ected as an ex
ecutive committee for the 15th
senatorial district for the next
two years: T. L. Purvis, Irwin
county; Tom Eason, Telfair
county; M B. t 'alhoun, Mont
gomery county; Clayton Jay,
Ben Hillcounty; J. P. Tomlinson,
Wheeler county and 0. J. Frank
lin, Dodge county.
It was moved and unanimously
carried that the senator from the
15th senatorial district for the
term succeeding that of the pres
ent nominee, be furnished by
Dodge county.
It was the unanimous sense of
this body that the number of
senatorial districts bs increased,
and in doing so that this distric
be made smaller and that the
senator elect and the various
repiesentatives-elect from the
counties composing t । s district
be instructed to thisMFect
O J. franklin,
Secretary.
