Resolutions Adopted by
Citizens’ Massmeeting.
A mass meeting held by the
citizens of Wheeler county on
October 6th, 1914. Upon a call
duly made, the citizens and farm
ers of Wheeler county met in
convention and upon motion Hon.
Jerry Johnson was unanimously
made chairman, and Hon. K. M.
McLennan was unanimously
elected secretary.
The chairman stated the object
of the meeting, which was for
the farmers to enter into some
agreement for their protection,
and upon motion the chairman
was authorized to appoint a com
mittee of three to draft suitable
resolutions and report to the
body. The chairman appointed
K, M. McLennan, J. H. Stroud
and J. W, Patterson, who re
ported the following resolutions,
which was unanimously adopted:
Whereas the farmeri of Wheeler
county are face to face with the meet
critical and most terrible problem
which haa confronted them in the laat
forty or fifty years, even since the
war between the states, in the 60s, and
Whereas on account of the war be
ing so terribly waged in Europe the
manufacturers of cotton and the mark
ets for lotton having been closed down,
and
Whereas conditions have caught the
producer with the largest prospective
crop aver grown in the South and one
that has baen grown at a higher cost
of production than any crop heretofore,
and
Whereas the great masses of our
people were lulled into a state of in
activity, which was induced by their
faith in what was termed a great
democratic administration at Wash
ington, D. C-, and in the premises of
a reputed statesman of said adminis
tration from Georgia that he had a
measure, which, when enacted into a
law by our national congress would
provide an emergency currency to en
able the cotton growers to finance
their cotton crop, and
Whereas, we, the cotton producers
for the world, are now told and given
to understand that the democratic
party and this democratic measure
was and is to be given entirely over to
the most gigantic trust that has ever
existed in any civilized government on
earth, actually turning oyer to it and
to its speculators ten-thousand million
dollars, and
Whereas this same democratic ad
ministration thiough its congress and
senate, has voted to tide over the great
Silver Miners Trust, and has voted
away millions of dollars of our gold
out of the Un ted States Treasury to
finance American Grandees' out of the
war zone of Europe, and
Whereas, it has continued to finance
the most gigantic whiskey trust knewn
in the history of nations, and
Whereas, it has re-established and
perpetuated the greatest and most
one intrated money monopoly imagin
able, but has utterly failed and iefus
ed to enact any law tending to enable ‘
the people who clothe and feed the
werld to finance their crop, and
Whereas, we the people, are left to
the mercy of a money trust and spec
ulators, who are eager to embr.ee the
opportunity to purchase at less than
the coat of production oi.r cotton,
■which is justly entitled to the name in
fair channels of trade as ”King Cot
tes,” and is the only commodity from
the sale of which the great majority
of Democrats and citizens can feed
their families and pay their debts, and

Be it Resolved, by the unanimous
vote of this convention that we ap
peal te the magnanimous spirit of the
Fertilizer manufacturers, parties who
have been so liberally patronized by us
for years past, and whose profits on

cotton in settlement of the notes we
gave for said fertilizers midling cot
ton at ten cents per pound.
Be it further Resolved, That we
make this offer in all fairness and with
no desire to mistreat any one, but
praying that said Fertilizer Manufac

by enable us to purchase fertilizers

Be it further Resolved, That unless
this offer is accepted by said manufac

to delay the payment of our notes till
