WHEELER COUNTY EAGLE, ALAMO, GEORGIA. -
Laurens County Citizens
adopt Strong Resolutions
(Fr»m Dublin Courier-HeJald)
We, the citizens of White
Spring school district, Laurens
county, met in massmeeting and
after discussing the financial
condition of our county, resolved
to adopt resolution as set forth
herein :|
To the cotton growers of the
south, the supply merchants,
fertilizer people and mule deal
ers in the south have for years
made large profits from the sale
at credit prices of their goods,
this year being no exception.
Now that the price of cotton is
below the cost of production and
means utter ruin if sold at the
low prices, from 7 to 10 cent per
pound, and whereas, the sup
plies. fertilizers, mules, etc.,
sold at these high time prices
have entered into the cost of
making said crop, it has become
the duty of every man raising
cotton to force these people to
give them 12 1-2 cents per pound
for each pound of middling cot
ton paid on these accounts. If
they refuse, keep your cotton at
home, if they levy on same ob
tain an injunction from the supe
rior court judge in your court
and this will step the sale until
the markets of the werld are
again open to this commodity.
Resolved further that we write
our representative and congress
man, urging them to have some
laws enacted as speedily as pos
sible, that will give the cottor
raisers of this state relief in the
present situation.
Resolved further that we en
dorse the “buy-a-bale” move
ment plan, also legislation to
limit the acreage of the 1915 crop
to at least 10 acres to the one
horse farm, and tax every acre
planted in excess of that amonnt
$20.00 per acre, the tax money
drawn from each county to be
placed in the county treasury,
and to be used on public schools
f»r the benefit of the laboring
children.
Nation Observes Peace.
There are two great battles
being fought in Europe at the
present time. The one in the
north of France between the
allied armies of France and
Great Britian against the Ger
mans, and the other in Galicia
and East Prusia where the Aus
trians and Germans are endeav
oring to stem the Russian ad
vance into Germany. Bv special
arrangements with one of the
largest news-gathering organiza
tions in the world, a comprehen
sive review of the European war
during th? past week has been
written for the Wheeler County
Eagle and will be found on an
other page under the heading.
