The house wives and husbant s
of Alamo, have been enlightened
as to the true religion of the
whole world. This new cult has
been propounded by two young
men that have made our little
city their headquarters for the
last two or three days. They pro
claim that all doctrines hereto
fore preached are wrong. Their
panacea for the soul is like all
quick fire salvation—after you
are saved, they insist that you
buy some of their literature and
walk the p iths of the sanctimoni
ous in this new faith The fallacy
of their doctrine, is this; we are
the people that are right; we
have the whole truth and all other
churches are wrong.
Elwin Brown, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Cleon Brown, has been ad

Richard B. Russell, Jr., of his
selection to stand examination
for entrance to West Point. The
examination is to be held in
Waycross, Georgia, January

gratulations to Mr. Brown, we
hope for his success in this
examination. West Point is sec
ond to none in the field of military
tactics and discipline, its schol
astic standing ranks with the
best universities in the world.
Only the stout hearted and
courageous finish the course
they prescribe. Wheeler county
should feel proud of this boy,
who we hope some day will be
one of our generals equal to a
Lee, Jackson, or a Pershing.

Intellect
I am quite sure, that it is a most
solemn duty to cultivate our under
standings to the uttermost, for I have
seen the evil moral consequences of
fanaticism, to a greater degree than
i ever expected to see them realized;
and I am satisfied that a neglected
intellect is far oftener the cause of
mischief to man, than a perverted or
overvalued one. Men retain their nat
ural quickness or cleverness, while
their reason and judgment are allowed
to go to ruin, and thus do they work
their minds and gain influence, and
are pleased at gaining it; but It is the
undisciplined mind which they are ex
ercising, instead of one wisely dis
ciplined.—Edwin Arnold.
