Governor Dedicates
Training Camp For
Ga. School Patrol
A new School Patrol training
' camp in the Veterans Memorial
i State Park at Cordele was dedicated
last, week by Governor Herman Tal
! madge.
This new facility will provide
training for some 3,000 school patrol
I boys and girls during each summer.
It is the first project of its kind in
the nation and has attracted wide
; attention.
i The Governor said that the camp
was created for two purposes: “1—
To better train young students in bur
state on the subject of adequate pro
' tection of the lives of our school
bovs and girls in Georgia; 2—To
"DID YOU KNOW...
Georgia’s textiles travel by
truck helping to build a
better, more prosperous,
more progressive Georgia.”
Wheeler County Eagle, Alamo, Georgia
provide them with wholesome and
pleasant recreation as recognition for
the good work they have done on be
half of school safety”.
Announcement was made this
week, also that the Governor is giv
ing all-out support to the develop
ment of a State 4-H Club center at
Rock Eagle Park near Eatonton. Tal
madge, who is a former 4-H Club
member, himself, approved the
transfer of skilled prison labor to
Rock Eagle for work on the center,
and announced that the State would
match dollar for dollar all funds
raised by 4-H members and their
friends for the construction of need
ed buildings at this new camp facili
ty.
The governor’s actions are in line
with his consistent policy of plac
ing accent on service to youth in our
state.
Annual Dooly Camp
Meeting To Be Held I
July 27-August 3 I
The annual Dooly’ County camp
meeting will be held at Dooly Camp
ground during the week of July 27th ।
through August 3rd. Bishop Arthur |
J. Moore, Bishop of the Atlanta area, I
will be the preacher for the morning |
service on July 27th. He will also I
address a district-wide Laymen’s •
Rally at the campground during the |
afternoon of July 27th, at 3:30
o’clock.
The Rev. Melvin Peavy, District
Superintendent of the Americus Dis-1
trict of the Methodist Church, in I
making the above announcement,
said, “we feel especially honored and ;
fortunate in having Bishop Moore, ■
who was only recently assigned to;
the Atlanta area for another four
years, to preach for us in the very
first service of the camp meeting.
We are also fortunate in having se
cured for this year’s camp meeting |
two of our very finest ministers and
workers with youth, the Rev. James
R. Webb, Jr., pastor of the Mcßae I
Methodist Church, and the Rev.;
Shannon Holloway, pastor of the i
Claxton Methodist Church. Hamp
Watson, who will be back for the
third successive year as the song
leader, is a favorite with the camp
ground congregations. We think
that we have one of the strongest
teams, preachers and workers, for
our Dooly Camp meeting that we
have had in recent years.
On Sunday’, July 27th, when there |
will be a great Laymen’s Rally for |
the Americus District, we are ex
pecting the tabernacle at Dooly to
be filled to capacity to hear Bishop
Moore, who will preach for the first
service of the camp meeting.”
The Rev. Mr. Peavy continues:
“We invite you to join us for the 1
services of the week, July 27th
through Augusta 3rd, with services
daily at 11:30 a. m., 3:30 p. m., and ।
8:30 p. m.”
The Dooly camp ground is located:
near Vienna. The Rev. Mr. Peavy,
who is in general charge of the ar
rangements, is being assisted by the
Rev. Arthur Pilgrim, Methodist pas- i
tor at Vienna, and by other pastors ;
of Dooly County.
Georgia counties still have time j
