Children Os Decease d Veterans Eligible
For Hospitalization In GI Hospitals
The regulations of the armed
services have been revised to extend
the privilege of hospitalization in
military facilities to the children of
deceased armed forces personnel,
William K. Barrett, Director of the
State Department of Veterans Serv
ice, announced today.
Barrett stated that the death of the
serviceman must have occurred
while on retired status.
Prior to this revision, hospital
care was granted to unremarried
widows of such deceased personnel,
but only the Navy and Marine Corps
provided this service to minor chil
dren.
To be eligible for such hospitali

dren must be unmarried and under
twenty-one (21) years of age. Eligi

widow survives the service-man.
Hospitalization may be accom

The child is a victim of progeria,
or premature senility. Doctors at
the hospital said it is one of na
ture’s rarest ailments. Both its cause
and cure are unknown.
The child, named Linda, entered
the hospital January 28, 1948, when
she was two months old. She has
been there ever since.
A hospital spokesman said Linda

One of the first eight counties in Georgia, Burke was
named for the great champion of American liberty,
Edmund Burke. In this old and historical county, many
land owners possess original grants from the King of
England. Ideal climate and soil conditions make Burke a
state leader in cotton production. Other products are
vegetables, fruits, poultry, and cattle. The county seat of
Waynesboro is the home of several industries—lumber
mills, plywood factory, cotton gin, canneries, and an
insecticides factory.
In this and other Georgia cormties, the United States
Brewers Foundation works constantly to maintain whole
some conditions where beer and ale are sold. Close at
tention is given areas near camps of the Armed Forces, and
both military officials and Georgia law enforcement officers
have commended the Foundation’s self-regulation pro
gram. Retailer educational meetings offer sound sugges
tions for continued operation in the community’s interest.

balding hair. She is 24 inches long
and for clothing wears doll dresses
and shoes.
The hospital declined to make
public the child’s last name. She
was born in Aurora and has been
adopted by a religious institution
under a court appointed guardian.
