Meal Enrichmeni
Program Expands
During 1951-52
Georgia’s corn meal enrichment
program is one year old, and a re
port this week shows 57 mills in 34
counties are now enriching meal.
C. B. Earnest, meal enrichment
specialist for the Agricultural Ex
tension Service, explainde that these
mills have purchased nearly 18,000
pounds of enrichment materials for
mixing with meal and that this has
gone into 141,000 bushels of meal in
12 months.
Ernest believes that the meal en
richment program will continue to
expand in 1952-53 “because it only
costs three cents per bushel to add
the vitamins and minerals that make
the meal so much more healthful to
the people who consume it.”
The meal enrichment specialist
explained that the enrichment at
tachment is not difficult to install on ;
ordinary corn mills, and the cost of |
the attachment for a small mill is I
less than S3O.
The counties in which a meal en- I
richment program is now in opera
tion are:
Walker, Whitfield, Union, Chat
tooga, Floyd, Cobb, Forsyth, Hall,
Franklin, Madison, Elbert, Carroll, '
Coweta, Walton, Oconee, Jasper, La- ■
mar, Monroe, Hancock, Glascock,
Bleckley, Dooley, Emanuel, Treut
len, Toombs, Evans, Irwin, Coffee,
Telfair, Cook, Dougherty, Crisp,
Grady, and Harris.
