Are United In Marriage
Mrs. Marie Spires and Carris- ]
ton Eugene Wells were united in
marriage Friday evening, Aug. 21,
at the home of the groom’s par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore R.
Wells, of Gum Branch.
Mrs. Wells is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Randall Johnson, of
Glenwood.
The ceremony was performed
before an emprovised altar of
smilax and potted palms, which
formed a background for standing
arrangements of white gladioli
and pink asters, and branched
candelabra holding burning tap
ers.
The double ring ceremony was
performed by Rev. H. E. Rogers,
pastor of the Liberty Baptist
Church.
The bride wore a street-length
dress of pastel pink cotton blend,
featuring a tailored bodice and
bouffant skirt; her hat was white
velvet with a short veil, and her
corsage was white orchids.
Miss Myrtice Wells, sister of
the groom, was the bride’s only
attendant. She wore a full-skirted

Walton Way Temple in Augusta.
The ceremony was performed
!by Rabbi Norman Goldberg.
Nuptial music was presented by
Mrs. Bright McConnell, organist,
and Miss Patricia Lane, soloist.
The temple was decorated with
I a background of talk trees fash
ioned of emerald foliage. Center
ing the altar was a canopy cover
ed with white organdy with mix
ed white flowers in clusters on
the poles and canopy top. On each
side of the canopy were tree
candlabra holding white tapers.
At the base of the candelabra
were shields of magnolia leaves.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore a floor-length
gown of Chantilly lace and satin.
The gown featured a bodice of
Chantilly lace with scalloped
neckline and long sleeves ending
in a point over the wrists. The
satin skirt was appliqued with
flowers of lace and ended in a
short chapel train of tiers of
Chantilly lace. Her finger-tip veil
of imported illusion was bordered
with lace which fell from a tiara
of seed pearls and sequins.
The bride carried a white Bible
with a yellow-throated white
orchid surrounded with lily of the
valley and tuberoses.
Miss Mary Langsam of Miami,
Fla., was maid of honor, and Mrs.
Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Rump and
children of Fort Valley were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. J.
Sears a few days.

home in Duncan, N. C. after a
visit with his aunt Mrs. Wallace
Ryals and other relatives. Wey

days last week with Mrs. Ryals.
SCHOOL OPENS
The Glenwood school opened
Friday with a very good program.
The Rev. Walter McClesky, pas
tor of the Methodist Church, was
the speaker. His topic was “Abil
ity to Laugh at Our Own Selves.”
J. F. Cason, the Principal, gave
some strict rules and regulations,
but pleasant. The number enrolled
this far is 206 in Grammar School
and 105 in High School.
The teachers in the Grammar
School are Mrs. Jimmie Fields,
Ist. Grade; Mrs. John H. Elton,
2nd. Grade; Mrs. Mackie A Simp
son, 3rd. Grade; Mrs. Fred Lord,
4th. Grade; Mrs. William Peter
son, sth. Grade; Mrs. Stanley
Simpson, 6th. Grade; and Miss
Carolyn Thigpen, 7th. Grade.
High School teachers are James

Keith Mitchell Purvis
Mr. and Mrs. Billy Purvis of
Helena announce the birth of a
son in the Telfair County Hospital
on August 31 who has been named
Keith Mitchell. Mrs. Purvis is the
former Miss Mable Evans of

the groom’s- best man.
Mrs. Johnso^ chose for her
daughter’s wedding a navy dress
with white accessories; her cor
sage was white pompoms.
Mrs. Wells wore an emerald
green dress with white accessories
and a corsage similar to that of
the bride’s mother.
A reception followed the cere
mony. The bride’s table was laid
with an ivory lace cloth over
pink linen, and centered by a
two-tiered wedding cake deco
rated in pink and white and top
ped by a miniature bride and
groom. The cake was encircled at
its base by lace fern and pink and
white blooms. Pink Dresden can
dle holders held pink tapers.
Mrs. Ervin Wells poured punch
and Mrs. Russell Wells registered
the guests.
Upon their return from a wed
ding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Wells
will reside in Midway.
Tommy Drake of Mcßae was ma
tron of honor. Bridesmaids were
Miss Brenda Mulling and Miss,
Susan Friedman, cousin of the!
bride, of Augusta. The attendants
were gowned alike in dresses of
mint green lace and net. The
sheath dresses of Chantilly lace
were designed with bateau neck
lines and tiny cap sleeves, and
feature a tired overskirt bound
at the waist with ribbon sashes.
They wore matching satin shoes
' and a small circular veil of match-

I H. W. Singer was his son’s best
man, and usher-groomsmen were

bridegroom, of Gainseville, Fla.;

nard Segall, brother of the bride,
and Robert Furst, cousin of the
bride, of Augusta.

On returning from a short wed
ding trip to the mountains, the
couple will make their home in
Gainesville, Fla., where they will
both continue studies at the Uni
versity of Florida.

Bridal Shower
One of the prettiest parties of;
the season was a recent bridal
shower honoring Miss Judy Rose,
bride-elect of Joel Kusnitz, given
at the heme of Miss Mattie Lee
Sears, hostess, assisted by Mrs.
Naomi Couey.
The home was lovely in an ar
ray of fall flowers.
The guests called from 4 to 6
p.m. They were greeted by Miss
Judy Rose, Mrs. Morris Kusnitz,
Mrs. Janet Rose of Bridgeport,
Conn., mother of the bride-elect;
Mrs. Ralph Dabraccio, of New
York, aunt of Joel, and others.
Mrs. Molly Cleman, mother of
Mrs. Kusnitz, was present.
After passing the receiving line
the guests were asked to write
in the bride’s book. They were
served punch and cake, at a beau
tifully appointed table, by Miss
Lois Pope. They were then in
vited into the dining room to
view the gifts that were on dis
play. There were at least 100 or
more lovely gifts which made the
bride-elect very happy.
The occasion was a huge suc
cess and will always be remem
bered as a happy one.
About 75 friends called during
the afternoon.
