"FARM CHATS"
By M. K. JACKSON
Molybdenum For Soybeans
Farmers in the state have not
planted as many acres of soybeans
in the past because they could
siot get good yields.
However, recent research has
shown that one of the limiting
factors to high soybean yields in
Georgia may be molybdenum.
As a result of this research,
molybdenum is now being recom
mended for soybeans. It should
be applied at the rate of one ounce
of molybdenum salt per acre as
a seed treatment.
This salt should be dissolved
in sufficient water to treat the
amount of soybeans to be plant
ed. A half pint of water per bush
ed of soybeans has been used suc
ressfully.
Ttecna Varieties
There are four good varieties
of pecans for Georgia, and they
ore Stuart, Farley, Desirable and
Elliott.
These four have good resistance
So disease, and some older varie
ties are also recommended, but
their disease resistance is low. |
These older varieties are Success, I
Curtis, Moore, Mahan, and Van!
Oeman.
There are some brand new va
rieties that have not been com
pietely tried, however, you may I

Meet a Portable Idea Factory
This little fellow is so little. But his potential
is great because he was born in a country
that values the individual. Here initiative pays
off— in money, recognition and self-fulfillment.
The free enterprise system developed the
practical genius of Thomas Alva Edison. He
invented the light bulb and brightened the
world. This weeks-old infant could be another
Edison. So could your child. All children carry
a portable idea factory in their heads.
To give them the chance to develop their
latent talents, we must protect them from
socialism. We must preserve free enterprise.
It is the one climate that allows the individual
to come to full bloom. February 11, Edison’s
birthday, is a good time to rededicate our
selves to the task. We need all the Edisons
we can get. Let us not lose one by default.

Way cross Clergyman
Named Supt. Os
Retirement Home
A Waycross clergyman has been
elected superintendent of a $3,-
000,000 retirement home being
constructed in Americus.
Dr. Henry S. Brooks, superin
tendent of the Waycross Metho
dist District, was elected chiei
executive of Magnolia Manor at
a meeting recently of the home’s
board of trustees. Magnolia Man- j
or is a project of Methodists in !
the South Georgia Conference. It
is being financed by a loan from
the federal Housing and Home
Finance Agency.
Last year- several trustees had
suggested that a layman trained
in hospital administration be em
ployed, but the group meeting in
Americus agreed a minister could
more nearly “direct all facets ol '
the facility.” A report from the
Personnel and Policies Committee
said Dr. Brooks was nominated
because “he can give spiritual
guidance to the home, direct its
business affairs, and be a good 1
public relations man.”
There are 100 Methodist retire- 1
ment homes in the country and 1
more than half of these have min- 1
isters as superintendents.
Magnolia Manor is being con
structed on a 392 acre tract neai 1
the Americus city limits. It is ।
