Tourists Spending In Georgia
Hits $704.4 Million In 1969
1969 was the most successful
year in the history of the trav
el industry in Georgia accord
ing to announcement by Gov
ernor Lester Maddox.
Vacation/recreation travelers
spent $7.04.4 million last year
in Georgia or $57.6 million
more than the 1968 spending.
This was an increase of 9.0 per
cent for Georgia. Spending by
all travelers on business and
pleasure trips reached a new
high of $992 million.
Vacation Bible
School Begins
At Baptist Church
Vacation Bible School begins
tonight (Friday) at Alamo Bap
tist Church with a picnic sup
per for boys and girls and their
parents at 6:00 P.M. This will
be followed by Preparation
Day which will be completed
at 9 o’clock.
The Rev. Raymond C. John
son, principal of, the school
states that the Bible School is
for boys and girls ages three
through sixteen and will con
tinue July 13 through 17 from
6:00 to 9:00 P.M.
Parents’ Night will be held
on Sunday, July 19, at 8:00
P.M. A complete and compe
tent faculty has been secured
for this special youth program.

Jesse H. Kent
Gets Promotion
To Captain
Jesse H. Kent, son of Mrs.
Helen U. Kent of 256 La Villa
Drive, Miami Springs, Fla., has
been promoted to captain in
the U. S. Air Force.
Captain Kent is a T-37 Talon
instructor pilot at Laughlin
AFB, Tex., with the 364th Pilot
Training Squadron, a unit of
the Air Training Command
which provides flying, techni
cal and basic military training
for U. S. Air Force personnel.
The captain, a 1961 graduate
of Miami Jackson High School,
received a B. S. degree and
commission upon graduation
from the U. S. Air Force Acad
emy. He is a member of Delta
Tau Delta.
His wife, Julie, is the daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel F.
Mayer of 1724 Leon C. Simon
Drive, New Orleans, La.
His father, Foy E. Kent, re
sides in Glenwood.
