Deaths And Funerals
James R. Dykes
Funeral services for James
Ronald Dykes, 17, of Glenwood,
who died in an automobile ac
cident Friday, Dec. 18, were
held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday in the
Chapel erf Sammons Funeral
Home. Burial was in the Mt.
Vernon Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gail John
son, Rickey Mcßae, Terry Carey,
Donnie Morrison, Allen Smith
and Joe Mcßae.
Survivors include his mother,
Mrs. Ruby Ilene Clark of Glen
wood; his father, Marcus Edward
Dykes of Angers, N. C.; his
maternal grandfather, Charlie
Richardson, and paternal grand
father, B. J. Dykes, both of
Mt. Vernon; one brother, Marcus
Russell Dykes of Mt. Vernon;
two half-brothers, Roy Gene
Maddox and Joseph Wayne Mad
dox, both of Mt. Vernon; two
half-sisters, Miss Betty Gene
Maddox of Mt. Vernon and Miss
Ilene Francis Clark of Glenwood.
William S. McDuffie
Funeral services were held
in the chapel of the Harris and
■Smith F uneral Home Friday, Dec.
18, for William Sidney McDuffie,
71, life long resident erf Telfair
County, who died in the Telfair
County Hospital last Thursday
morning after a year of declining
liealth.
Services were conducted by the
Rev. Mr. Scott, Pastor of the
Lumber City Methodist Church
with burial in Telfair Memorial
Gardens.
Nephews served as pall
bearers.
Mr. McDuffie was born in Tel
fair County on February 10,1899,
the son of Jolin A. and Lucy
Mae Harbin McDuffie. He was
married to Miss Carrie Belle
Teal on October 16, 1926, and
was a member of Dodge’s Chapel
Methodist Church, and was a well
known and highly esteemed
farmer.
Survivors include his wife; one
daughter, Mrs. Mary Wilda Mc-
Duffle Whatley of Cliattanooga,
Tenn.; one grandson, Bill Whatley
of Huntsville, Ala.; five brothers,
Rollie McDuffie of Lumber City,
Rt. 1, Jesse McDuffie, Muller
McDuffie, O. L. McDuffie, all of
Mcßae, and Rufus McDuffie of
Preston; and two sisters, Mrs.
J. M. Kelley of Mcßae, and
Mrs. E. M, Wilkes Jr. of Hazle
hurst.

Funeral services for Mike John
Sellers, 72, of Rt. 2, Mcßae,
who died Monday in the Telfair
County Hospital following a long
illness, were held Wednesday

arrangements.

Steve Mathis, Daniel Boyd, Lind
say Swida, Fritz Gay, Jr., Jackie
Hinson, Mike Hinson and Ernest
Sellers, Jr.
Mr. Sellers was born in Telfair
County on February 11, 1898
the son of the late Jerry and
Anna Smith Sellers. He was mar
ried to the former Miss Vada
Kearce on June 18, 1918 in Tel
fair County and was a member
of the Central Grove Church at
God.
Survivors include his wife at
Rt. 2, Mcßae; four daughters,
Mrs. Lorene Boyd of Helena,'
Mrs. Lois Swida of Dublin, Mrs.
Hazel Hinson of Helena, and Mrs.
Mildred Gay of Mcßae; one son,
Aveon Sellers of Mcßae; 10
grandchildren; 7 great grand
children; two brothers, Henry
Sellers and Ernest Sellers at
Mcßae; and three sisters, Mrs.
Lucy McCoy of Lyons, Mrs. Ethel
Snellgrove of Miami, Fla., and
Mrs. Annie Browning of Ailey.
Mrs. Claude B. Cloud
Funeral services for Mrs.
Claude Bristow Cloud, 95, of
Lumber City were held at 2:30
p. m., Sunday in First Presby
terian Church of Crawfordville.
Burial was in the church
cemetery.
Mrs. Cloud, who died Friday
in Clyde Duncan Memorial Hos
pital at Hazlehurst, had lived in
Lumber City for seven years,
coming from Crawfordville,
where she was a member erf
the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three sis
ters, Mrs. T. D. Wooten of Lum
ber City, Mrs. W. B. Bradley
of Kannapolis, N. C„ and Mrs.
W. B. Murray of Ashburn.

Home of Hazlehurst was in charge
of arrangements.
Delta Kappa
Gamma Meeting
The Alpha Omega chapter of
Delta Kappa Gamma held its
Christmas meeting on December
10th at tlie Southern Case in
Vidalia.
The table decorations and the
program were in keeping with
the season. Mrs. Thelma Haley
gave a Christmas inspirational
and Mrs. Faye Outlaw showed
slides. Alamo teachers decorated
the tables.
Those attending from Alamo
were: Mrs. Hazel Joyce, presi
dent, Mrs. Ammie Mary Hopkins
and Mrs. Mary Clark.

Mrs. Knowles is the former
Miss Eva Cordelia Morris,
daughter of the late Thomas
Emanuel and Martha G. Morris
of Glenwood.
Mr. Knowles is the son erf the
late John J. and Lula W. Knowles
of Mcßae.
Mr. and Mrs. Knowles were
married on December 21, 1945
by Preacher Hooks at his resi
dence on the comer of Plant
and Jeff Davis Street in Macon.
They made their home in Macon
for a short time, but moved to
Byron in December of 1946 and
have resided there since that
time.
A three tiered cake, white
with pink rose buds, pink punch
and other refresnments were
served during the afternoon.
Hostesses were Mrs. Nell Smith,
Mrs. Peggy Hardison, Mrs. Linda
Hardison, Mrs. Linda Smith,
Mrs. Sandra Smith and Mrs.
Mary Alice Hardison, all erf By
ron. Also assisting was Mrs.
Knowles’ niece Miss Virginia
Gail Morris erf Macon.
Mr. and Mrs. Knowles were
joined by 119 guests in cele
brating. Many beautiful gifts were
received and displayed. Other
friends who could not come sent
cards, gifts and telephoned, wish
ing them a happy anniversary.

cember 18, who has been named
John Christopher. The baby’s

County Hospital, on December 15.
She has been named Katie Ann.

to 5:00 p.m. Monday through
Friday.
A representative of this office
may be seen at the Courthouse,
Mcßae, on Thursdays from 9:30
a.m. to 12:00 noon and at the
Alamo Welfare Department on
second Thursdays from 3:30 to
4:30 p.m.
Q. A serious auto accident 4
months ago disabled me and it
looks like I’ll be unable to work
for well over a year. I am 23.
Because I had worked only since
graduation from college 2 years
ago, the possibility of monthly
social security payments never
occured to me, at least until
now. Is 2 years of work enough?
A. Yes. A person disabled
before reaching age 24 needs
only 1 1/2 years of work covered
by social security, even though
the work must have been in the
3 years before the disability
began. You meet this require
ment.
