■My
The best things in life aren’t free.
A breath of perfect air. A walk through a ferny wood.
A fish, fat and clean from a sparkling river. These joys
are disappearing. And it will cost a lot to get them back.
People have long expected nature to renew herself
eternally in spite of mistreatment. But nature can't. Man
must undo the damage he has done. And everyone will
have to pay the price.
We're willing to do our share, and already are spend
ing millions to preserve the environment. Like $lO
million in the next three years on electrostatic precip
itators to protect the air. And $27 million on towers to
cool for reuse the water we take from the rivers.
These efforts weigh heavy in our construction budget.
But we think the best things in life are worth paying for.

SOCIAL SECURITY
NEWS & VIEWS
Faster Service - Medicare
beneficiaries in Georgia can
• expect faster service according
to Charles F. Hall, Branch
Manager of the Dublin Social
Security Office.
The reasons for this
improvement n service is
based on several changes.
First, the Prudential Insurance
Company took over processing
of Medicare Part B bills in
Georgia last year. One of the
changes they have made is con
version from manual to com
puterized processing of claims.
This change alone made
possible the reduction of claims
pending from 134,000 in October
to 109,000 at the end of January.
This is a significantaccomp
lishment because the January
claims load is normally the
' heaviest month for claims in
the year. The Prudential In
surance Company' is aware that
the claims pending is high, even
now, but they are making a
determined effort to get the
pending load to 50,000 claims
by May.
With this as an average
claims load on hand - process
ing would normally take about
60 days. Presently some claims
are taking longer. "Many
claims,” Mr. Hall states, "are
delayed because the Medicare
claim number is incorrect or
missing.” So to be sure YOUR
claim is processed as quickly'
as possible check and be sure
your social security number
is on the claim and is correct.
For further information call
or write the Dublin Social Se
curity Office located at 114
East Johnson Street, the tele
phone number is 272-5347. A
representative of this office
may be seen at the Courthouse
in Mcßae, on Thursdays from
9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon and
in Alamo, at the Welfare De
partment on second Thursday s
from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Q. I have full medical cover
age with a private insurance
company-, so I filed my- Medi
care claim with them. They
sent it back and told me to
contact the nearest social se
curity office. Why?
A. Most claims must be filed
with the Medicare Office first
before a private health
insurance company' will re
imburse. Come in tothe Branch
Office and we will show you
how to file a Medicare claim.
Q. I was taken ill in North
Carolina while I was on vaca-
tion there, but lam a permanent
resident of Florida, so I sent
my bills tothe Florida Medicare
office. Why did Florida tell
me they forwarded my claim
to North Carolina?
A. The claim must be filed
with the Medicare office in the
State where the services were
rendered.
