Want to add a new puzzle
to that old one, which asks
whether any sound is made
fay a tree, tailing in an un
inhabited forest with no living
ear to hear it? Try this:
Can one man on a desert
island be said to have a “per
sonality?”
The personal style we call
personality is something
which springs up between and
in contact with persons. It
takes at least two to give
meaning to the idea of per
sonality, and each person’s
gifts in this regardare sharp
ened and brought out by
contact and interaction with
others round about him. That
contact is lacking on a desert
island.
We have new words for
what was once meant by the
word "personality.” We talk
of identity, self image, im
pact. However new the terms,
the old truth stands firm:
identity or personality de
velops through broad and deep
and varied contact with our
fellowmen.
Those unfortunate ones, who
are thought to have no person
ality, most often are victims
of isolation. They may have
had a few chances for fruitful
contact with others; or they
may have chosen to stand
aloof out of shyness or fear.
Whatever the cause, the
cure is obvious. It lies in the
practice of contact, of re
lationship, of broad acquaint
ance. For the isolated, it is
never too late to break out.
And for those with a wider
personal relationship, it is
always time to enlarge the
circle. No person is tally a
person on a desert island!
RESOLUTION: Overcome
self-consciousness by making
a special effort to start or
enHven conversation thru
“picking the brains” of
others, to discover what gifts
God lias given them, to learn,
to share viewpoints, and to
better one another.

Income Reports
Due Back To
VA By Jan. 15
Georgia Veterans Service
Director Pete Wheeler this
week is reminding the more
than 55,000 Georgia veterans
and dependents who are on
the Veterans Administration’s
pension rolls that tliey have
only a short time remaining
in which to file reports on
their 1971 income.
Wheeler said, ,r The dead
line for notifying the VA about
personal income is Jan. 15,
1972. The VA must have the
information on income by that
date in order to determine
the pension amounts for the
coming year.”
Income questionnaires are
mailed each year on Nov. 1
to provide pensioners ample
time in which to complete

The cost of living council
has ruled that the sale and

Thus, the price freeze does
not apply to transfers, accord

State Executive Director of

Upper Income
Groups Triple
Over the past 10 years,
the number of households with
annual incomes exceeding
$15,000 has nearly tripled
while the total number of
households increased only by
one-fifth. In 1970 there were
over 12 million households
with $15,000-plus incomes,
revealed a study by The Con
ference Board and reported
in the January 1972 issue of
FINANCE FACTS, a monthly
newsletter on consumer be
havior published by the
National Consumer Finance
Association.
Women’s libbers may be
happy to know that the in
creasing prevalence of the
multi-paycheck home is a
major foctor in the growth
of the upper income bracket.
At the $15,000-plus level of
household income, over 75
per cent of the homes had
more than one person in the
labor force.
The future looks even
brighter. It is estimated that
by 1975 about one-quarter of
all households will be in the
$15,000-plus income bracket.
By 1980 one-third of all
households will be in this
upper income bracket. As
more and more family in
comes rise, industry will re
design its merchandise to ap
peal to this vast and
prosperous market.
Friendship is about the
hardest intangible to define
with any degree of accuracy.
