A certain Bachelor smiled his sweetest and talked very pleasing to a young lady last Saturday. What was the effect will be devel oped in the future. Threshing will soon be in progress. While Georgia is not quoted as a wheat state, her grain is very fair for home production. The cemetery is in a wretched condition, and ought to be fenced. An outlay of a few dollars would make the necessary repairs. The doctors report a good deal of sickness in the country just now. This is caused from the changable weather we have had the past few days. We call the attention of our readers to the announcement of J. C, Allan for re-election to the tax receiver’s office. Charley is very popular, and makes a No. I officer. The public square o Homer has; [one of the most beautiful groves of oaks that we ever saw, besides a well of the purest water in the world. There is ne excuse for a man if he perrishes in this country except downright laziness. It is about time the candidates were all announcing, Xou can never tell your chances by inquiry. Come to the front, and if you art* accused of stealing, a mill, tell them you expect to steal the pond, too. Acknowledge every thing; be fore the race is over you will have stolen part of Europe. It is only the faint-hearted give over to trifl ing affairs. The exhibition and picnic of ! Homer Academy, last Saturday I was a success. The speaking took [place up stairs in the Court House, ; —Commencing at 9 a. in. Music was furnished by Homer String Band. The School did well in their deliverance of speeches and essays After the exercises din ; ner was* served on the grounds in [ front of the court square. A large number from all parts of the coun ty were present. Miss Martin has managed the school here with much skill and tact. She has advanced her pu pils rapidly and pleasantly, and not a word of complaint has been entered against her so far. We must say that she displays wonder ful judgment and tact in teaching and, if she continues in the profes sion of teaching, she will hold a place in the front rank. Call for Executive Committee. We say this because we believe this section is bound to get on a boom some day. It may not come suddenly but it will come sure. Before many years the shriek of the iron horse will be heard in Homer and a line of railway will be built through this county; then capital will come here tc develop this rich and beautiful section; trade will revive, and its proJts will build up our own resources, in stead of leaving us.
