“TALKS ON TIMELY TOPICS
By Mr*. A. R. Shivers
“Come, let us return unto the
Lord; for He hath torn, He hath
smitten; He will now heal.”
When the prophet uttered
these words, he made H imper
ative that activity be on our
part.
As nations of the earth, as
states, counties, and individuals,
we find ourselves in a torn,
smitten condition, and we are
commanded to return to the
place where we left off serving
God.
“Our Debts,” is a subject
which is engaging the thought
ful minds of today. We are
trying to get forgiveness for
ourselves before we forgive oth
ers.
We are saying the European
countries should be forced to
pay us, and forgetting Him who’
giveth us the power to get
wealth.
Sooner or later we shall have
to forgive and forget, and for
our good, it should be ‘sooner.
If we could only keep the
thought before us, continually, i
that Right will always triumph,
and that “Ingratitude” is the
worst of diseases, we should
never lack for any good thing.
The great minds have another
problem up for solution. On
this subject, a good friend of
mine recently remarked, "I
don’t think I should ever vote
it lor a person who was in favor
of bringing liquor back!” I
to this estimable gentleman,
| for Repeal of the 18th
why7 Rment,” and told him
I said, didn’t you vote
for Hoover in 1928? He said
he did. I then asked if he were
going to vote that way on No
vember 8th. To my astonish
ment, he became furious. He
staid we’ve tried Hoover and
he’s no good, and before I could
speak, a broad smile stole over
his countenance, and I did not
have to say: “WJc’ve tried the
Eighteenth Amendment, and it's!
no good.”
Liqour hasn’t been away to
come back! Men are going to
have call it, it seems, so whether
you it legalizing crime or
some other name, the state needs
the revenue; the taxpayers need
a “let-up," and the ones who
have to have it, need better
product for the sake of their
“anatomy.”
Some who have given their
views upon the subject of Re
peal. seem to think because an
issue has gone down upon the
there, statute regardless. books it ought to stay!

*ITiey who are satisfied with
the present "Prohibition?” law
are afflicted with two maladies,
namely, ignorance and selfihh
ness.
Another thing l notice, the
preachers and lawyers are about
the only ones who are putting’ .f
1 a real tight against , i> Repeal. i
1 had a message sometime ago
saying don’t something like this: “If
you preachers, stop lining up the i
bootleggers and law
yers, together, you’re going to,
not only, be defeated, but you
will lose all your friends.”
It wont hurt the printer to let
me say what I said to this mes
senger, but I wont put it in the
paper.
It would be an impetus to us,
however, to remember that no
body, big of brain and purpose,
ever falls out with a person for
having a divergent viewpoint!
Wouldn’t this be t funny
world if all people were of the
same opinion on every subject?
I was just about to say that I
am sorry it was ever possible!
that people could parade under
“false colors," but it isn’t neces
, sarv that I say it.
