7ETERAN WHO ASKED FOR
JAIL TERM CHANGES
HIS MIND
CHICAGO, May 1 (TP)—A world
I war veteran, who was sent to prison
for a year at his own request, told a
judge today he’s decided it was all a
mistake.
Last fall, when winter was setting
in early and veteran Joseph Marotti
was broke and friendless, he had him
self arrested. He charged himself with
shoplift, ng—and aske the judge to
send him to jail for a year.
Said Municipal Judge Holland.
‘Okay. A year in the Bridewell Pri
son.” ...
Winter’s over now, and Marotti
looked longingly through the bars of
his cell at the warm sunshine. He
will soon have his veteran's bonus.
Marotti asked the judge: “I won
der if couldn’t withdraw my charges
against myself?”
Judge Holland is considering the
petition.
