DANCE ORCHESTRA WILL
JOIN PHIL BAKER ON

Hal Kemp and his internationally
famous dance orchestra will accom
pany Phil Bfker, “The Great Amer
ican Tourist,” when he makes an
imaginary visit to this city via radio
during his broadcast over WTOC to
day at 6:30 p. m., EST.
The Kemp orchestra, because of
its radio programs, phonograph re
cording and extended personal ap
pearances, throughout the United
States and Europe, Is recognized by
devotees o! popular music everywhere
as one of America's most distinctive
dance ensembles. Time and time
again, the band has been flattered
by»th most sincere compliment
known to the entertainment world
imitation.
Maestro Hal Kemp is a lanky
Southerner, -i native of Alabama, and
many radio listeners are as charmed
by his -pleasant l>£xie drawl as they
are by his staccato orchestrations of
popular tunes. Hal’s family moved
to North Carolina when he was a
youngster and he spent most of his
early years in Charlotte.
It was while studying at the Uni
versity of North Carolina that Kemp
began his sensational climb to fame
as a conductor and interpreter of
music in the modern manner. Hal
was leader of the college orchestra
and during vacation travelled exten
sively in this country and played sev
eral . important engagements abroad.
After graduation he kept the unit to

in New Yoric.
