William McCasland
One of the most dramatic scenes
at the murder trial of Mrs. Velma
Patterson at Greenville, Tex., was
provided by the testimony of
William (Vester) McCasland, a
former husband, and father of
the two children she is accused of
poisoning to obtain insurance
benefits. McCasland testified that
he was present in his former
wife’s home when one of the
girls died in agony.

in addition to starring in Qo-
Respondent Unknown” and “Call It
a Day”, two leading plays on th®
Main Stem. Miss Morgan is now
being featured in David Harum,
the NBC serial built around the
shrewd, kind-hearted character of
Edward N. Wescott’s novel of the
same name, and heard over the
NBC-Blue network dally except
Saturday and Sunday, at 10:45 a.
m„ E.D.S.T.
Her three assignments require
a lot of fast stepping, traffic dodg
ing and hurried breakfasting, but
Claudia enjoys the pace. In “Co-
Respondent Unknown.” at the Ri tz
theatre, Miss Morgan appears in
the first and third acts in the role
Ilka Chase held until she was
stricken with appendicitis. At the
end of the first act Claudia dashes
to the Morosco to be featured
with Phillip Merivale in the sec
ond act of the Theater Guild pro
duction, “Call It a Day”. This over,
she hurries back to the Ritz for
the third act of “Co-Respondent
Unknown”. She has nine minutes
between the two houses.
Strenuous though he night sched
ule is, Miss Mrgan has little tllpe
to stay in bed mornings. She’s up
at 9:00 to be at Radio City for
9:30 David Harum rehearsal.
When the program is concluded .
she returns to her Manhattan '
apartment to catch up on some
sleep. ,
Like her father, Ralph Morgan,
and her uncle, Frank Morgan, film
stars, Claudia has contributed to
the serene prestige of the House of
Morgan by appearing in the films
herself. Among her more recent
stage successes have been “Are
You Decent?”, “Accent on Youth”
and the London production of
“Strange Interlude.”
