DIES IN ATTEMPT
FIND LOST MINE
RICH RANCHER FOUND DY
ING IN THE DESERT \
SUCCUMBS
PHOENIX, Ariz., May 9 (TP).—
Police are investigating reports that
the wealthy stockman, Jacob Lambert f?
died in a mysterious attempt to re
cover the famous “Lost Dutchman’’
mine . • k
Lambert, a 53-year-old rancher
from Montrose, Cal., was found near
death from starvation and thirst in
the Arizona desert, 32 miles north
west of Phoeni . He was brought
into the city, where he died in a
hospital. He never recovered suffi
ciently to give a coherent account of
what he was doing in the desert.
Detectives began inquiries after
hearing that Lambert had made mys
terious remarks about finding the
fabulously rich “Lost Dutchman”
mine. Frontier tradition says the
mine was located in early days but
lost after the death of its owner. A
vast fortune in rich gold ore is said
to be waiting for the lucky prospect
or who finds it again.
NO FAIRf
LADY CANDIDATE WOULD
NOT FLIP COIN TO DE
CIDE ELECTION TIE
QUINCY, Mass., May 9 (TP).—
Candidate Kathleen Keafns insisted
today that flipping coins is no way
to decide an election.
A recount of the primary’s ballots
shws that Mrs Kearns and Jamas
Saunders received the same number
of votes for delegate to the Massachu
setts Democratic state convention.
They have 104 votes apiece.
City Clerk Crane wanted to decide
the tie by the toss of a coin. Mrs.
Kearns ruled that out. She said it
wouldn’t be fair to the voters who
supported her in the race. The elec
tion clerk says Mrs. Kearns has the
right to demand a special election if
she wishes.
A large 100 pound boulder was
placed on the tracks today in such a
way that it interferred with the
thrownig erf switches by the tower
man. He investigated and found the
boulder.
The previous attempt was near the
Beaver Broojr crossmg, where two
large pieces of iron were placed across
the tracks.
