May 12 (TP).— The biological survey is asking the • ■nation today to shoot birds with cam eras, if it feels the urge to shoot them at all. The reason given by the govern ment wild life conservation depart ment was th t the population of birds especially rare ones, in the United States is decreasing. A special appeal was made for the Red Crested Woodpecker. Because this bird is big, noisy and conspicu ous. it has become an easy target for guns and sling-shots. The Senate last year defeated a similar amendment, calling for the payment of WPA wages to equal the prevailing wage paid in the various sections tfhere the WPA projects are under way. However, the present amendment Is understood to have White House approval and is expected to be given the Senate’s okay. Capitol Hill prophets were free to predict that the relief approriation bill will pas the senate in much the same form that it was sent through the House by a 341 to 38 vote. Debate in the upper chamber, however, prob ably will bring an attack on the en tire WPA set-up .from West Virginia’s Senator Holt. Holt recently accused WPA heads of using relief fluids for political purposes.
