IRISH ARMY CHIEF
JAILED IN DUBLIN
TWOMEY IS ARRESTED AS
HEAD OF SECRET ANTI
BRITISH GROUP
DUBLIN, May 21 (TP)—The chief
of the Irish republican army, Mau
rice Twomey was arrested today by
authorities of the Irish Free State.
Twomey is the leader of the secret
organization which has bitterly op
posed all British influence in Ire
land. He was seized by police just
after he attended mass in Dublin.
Another well known republican lead
er, Solicitor Lehane, was later ar
rested.
Maurice Twomey was one of the
strong hands in the Irish rebellion of
1916. Later he took an active part
in the Irish civil war for indepen
dence from Britain. Under the re
gime of William Cosgrave, there was
a price on his head.
