LOCAL POSTOFFICE TO GET NEW STAMP SOON The Past Office Department today received a bulletin announcing the printing of a new stamp which is called the Arkansas Centennial Com memorative Stamp which will be put on sale at Little Rock, Arkansas, June 15. The stamp will be on sale in Savanah and other offices as soon as possible after that date. The new stamp is the same size as the special delivery stamp and other recent commemoratives. The central figure is a design of the old Arkansas State House. Private col lectors may obtain selections from the Philatelic Department of the Post Office Department. 25 ARE INJURED IN TROLLEY CRASH BOSTON, May 25 <TF' —At least 25 persons were reported to have been injured yesterday when two elevated street cars crashed together. The terrific impact came as the cars were proceeding through ths Bcylston street subway. Extent of the Injuries are not known yet. The cars carried more than 100 persons. The injured are being removed from the wreckage and rushed to hosiptals- HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT CRITICIZED BY JURY BEFORE ADJOURNMENT The March term of the grand jury of Chatham County Superior Court, adjourned yesterday and demanded that the State Highway Department take actions on the plans proposed for the improvement of roads and other projects in Chatham County. The grand jury argued Savannah has not been getting its just share of co operation from the state body and called on the highway department to back up the talk of improvement with action. ALABAMA POLICEMEN ACCUSED BY DENTIST FOR KIDNAPING ACT MONTGOMERY, Ala., May 26 (TP) —An Atlanta dentist, Dr. Leo M'eller, charged today that he was kidnaped and returned from Georgia by Alabama police. Alabama Deputy Fire Marshal T. J. Hall said Meller confessed in At lanta that he burned his house in Montgomery to collect the insurance. Hall said the dentist waived extradi tion before he was taken across the state boundary to Montgomery. Meier now is in jail unable to raise SSOO bond. He declared today that he was given no opportunity to protest the removal. MARCH TERM ADJOURNED The March term of the superior court was terminated yesterday morn ing at 11:30 o’clock by order of Judgse John Rourke, Jr. The court will con vene again on June 2. PLANS RELEASED FOR TYBEE DAY BOOKLET IS SENT OUT TO PUBLIC DESCRIBES OPENING In a special bulletin addressed to the Citizens of Savannah, Harvey H Wilson, president of the Savannah Chamber of Commerce, Wm. L Breslin, president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, has made known complete plans for the grand opening of Savannah Beach, on next Saturday, May 30. At 4:30 in the afternoon, there will be a bathing beauty contest on Ty brisa pavillion with entries from many counties in the Southeast to gether with other beach attractions until night. At 9 p.m. Tybrisa will officially open the dancing season with the music of Joe Haymes’ nationally fa mous broadcasting and recording or chestra and the songs of Loretta Lee, lovely star of radio. At 7 o’clock In the evening there will be an opening dinner in the main dining room of the Hotel Ty bee. All are urged to make reserva tions early for this affair. The Chamber of Commerce bulletin says iu part about the dinner: “There will positively be no speeches, but there wil be a good floor show and plenty of entertainment and an opportunity for you to make up congenial parties and have a fine time. There will be dancing and everything done to make your evening the high spot of the evening. The price of the dinner will be SI.OO and hundreds are expected. “Reservations are now in order and may be made with either Mrs. Evelyn C. Baker, at the Hotel Tybee, or with the Chamber of Commerce.’’ CARPENTER TO LEAVE CITY The Rev. and Mrs. C. C. J. Carpen ter and family will leave next Mon day for Birmingham, Ala., to make their future home. Rev. Carpenter is the rector of the St. John’s Epis copal Church and has accepted a call to Birmingham, Ala. It is not known who the new rector of the church will be, but It is understood an announcement will be made with in a short time. CHARTER GRANTED An order granting a charter to A.“ H. Singer Company was handed down by Judge John J. Rourke, Jr., in su perior court yesterday. The incorporators are Alfred H. Singer and Perry J. Singer. Capital stock was listed at SI,OOO with the privilege to increase to $20,000.
