STAPLETON, Deputy Clerk. Superior Court of Chatham County, Georgia. I HOOVER (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1) The national convention got down to hard work today, thres.’lng out the party platform and clearing the way for its big moment tomorrow, when the candidates will be chosen. At this morning’s session the con vention’s committees on rules and credentials made their reports. Then the Republicans settled down to the routine matter of electing Bertrand S. Nt 11 of New York its permanent chairman. He is to deliver his open ing address immediately afterward. Platform The biggest fight of the convention faces the G. O.P. delegate today. Tonight, just after President Her bert Hoover addresses, the convention, the committee on resolutions will of fer its 1936 Republican platform. The big question now, seems to be: “What will be the Republican party platform's stand on the gold question?” If reports prove true that the Lan donites are ready to give eastern Re publican moguls their way in a de mand for a return to the gold stand ard, the Republicans are threatened with a Borah walkout. Borah has termed a return to the gold standard, a surrender to mone tary monopolists. Reports have it that the Landonites traded the gold standard plank with in re turn for eastern support of the Lan don state’s rights plank. If the ru mors are borne out by today’s devel opments it will mean that Landon forces regard the Borah threat as an empty one. It will mean that Landon forces regard the Borah threat as an empty one. It will mean that London’s steamroller engineers fe?l their drive can’t be stopped— either in the nomination race or the presidential campaign itself. Other planks which the resolutions committee is said to be hammering Into the Republican platform include the call for a constitutional amend ment which would permit federal minimum wage regulations; a strong' farm plank Including soil conserva tion measures; a “hands off” foreign policy plank and a return of relief propriety to the states. Most of these planks, according to those who are close to the Republic an platform committee, are hewed with an ee to the Naw York and Pennlvsvania delegation votes. New York has 90 unpledged votes ot spend at the convention, while Pennsylvania has 75. Landonites hope that the platform offered today will swing these two big delegations over to the Landon list in the first ballot. FIT SUBJECT FOR ASYLUM The best definition of a communist we have yet seen runs about like this: He is a man who thinks every thing is the matter with the country and that nothing’s wrong with him. 1 OUSTED SECRETARY NOT TO BE TRIED LONDON, June 10 (TP)—Britain’s attorney general told the House of Commons today that the government would not prosecute the former colo nial secretary, J.
