NEW YORK, June 15 (TP)—Wall Street betting commissioners report ed today that the gambling odds still favor President Roosevelt for re-elec tion, although the ratio has slumped from two to one down to 7 to 5. Only insignificant wagers are reported. The change in the odds is credited to Republican plans for a fighting campaign on a platform which polit ical leaders regard as liberal, al though contradictory in spots. The re action throughout the country, coupled with the results of recent straw bal lots, indicates that the New Deal may have a stiff battle for its life. One blow to the Republicans was delivered by President Green of the powerful American Federation of La bor. Green said that while the fed eration will study Governor Landon’s labor record before making any offi- THE TUTTS by Crawford Young BMP a “Terrific Yen! 1b Propose -fZ> his anp iboK steps 'fb preve>tT rr \ Il [ |L 'WI ■ E=y ll i< 8 Xz clal statement, he personally favors President Roosevelt. Green said fed eration leaders are bitterly disappoint ed by the Republican failure to adopt planks recommended by the labor forces. The Republican Senator Norris of Nebraska has bolted the Republican party already. He said he would sup port Roosevelt and predicted his re election . Senator Borah’s non-committal at titude also causes worry in Republic an circles. Although Idaho's lone wolf is not considered a great political power, many Republican voters might follow him in revolt. Meanwhile the new Republican chairman, John Hamilton of Topeka, has taken control of the Republican machine. He intends to patch up the engines and turn the party machine into a war tank for his attacks on the New Deal. Hamilton and a com mittee of 15 Republicans front vari ous sections of the country expect to call on Governor Landon to discuss strategy next Tuesday.
