VETERAN’S DAUGHTER
USES BONUS “TO SEE
CLARK GABLE”
NEW YORK, June 30 (TP).—Jo
seph Vichnes is a firm believer in
the old adage about not crying over
spilt milk. That’s why he refuses to
give vent to his daughter Martha’s
trip to Hollywood.
Vichness is an unemployed veteran
who received SSOO In bonus money
the other day. The same night the
SSOO and 15-year-old Martha disap
peared. The girl’s schoolmates re
vealed that Martha had plans of go
ing to Hollywood to meet Clark
Gable.
American Legion officials finally
located the girl in a Hollywood ho
tey. Only $5 of the SSOO was left,
and Martha still had been unsuccess
ful in meeting screen star Gable. Le
gionaires advised Vichnes they would
finance the girl’s trip back home.
The New York veteran accepted
the disappearance of his SSOO wind
fall philosophically. Shurgging his
shoulders he said—“ The money’s
gone, so what is the use to make a
big fuss over it now?”
The Orkney and Shetland Islands
are held in pawn by Britain. They
were turned over by Danes as se
curity for payment of the dowry due
James ni for marrying Princess
Margaret of Denmark, and the Danes
have never gotten around to paying it.

YORK AND WHITAKER STREETS
Templeton is a farmer near Cooke
ville. Yield of eggs from his hen
roosts fell far below normal, where
upon Henry indulged in a bit of in
genuity.
He baited his strongest fishing line
with an egg and waited results.
Several hours later, the farmer
found a five-foot snake wriggling on
the end of the hook.
