MIDSHIPMEN LAND
AFTER ‘HARD’ TRIP
CHERBOURG IS PORT OF
CALL FOR UNCLE
SAM’S SAILORS
CHERBOUGH, France, July 20
(TP) —A boat load of wide eyed U.
S. midshipmen landed in Cherbourg
harbor this morning when the U. S
training ship “Oklahoma" steamed
in for a three-day stay.
After official greetings have been
tendered by city and naval author
ities most of the student sailors will
set out for Paris and a couple of days
of sight-seeing.
The training squadron left Sweden
two days ago and ran into some
rough weather in the Bay of Biscayne.
Several youngsters complained of the
rolling and tossing but there were
no serious casualties. Everybody was
on hand today when the boatswain
piped the magic call: ’Shore leave!"

WOMAN MAGISTRATE AD
VISES POLICE TO QUIT
SNOOPING AROUND
NEW YORK, July 20 (TP)— If you
happen to be in New York’s Bronx
today and see a few crestfallen po
licemen walking around with sheepish
expressions, don’t mention Judge
Anna Kross to them. The judge is a
woman. She sits in the Bronx mag
istrates court and apparently she
doesn’t like to be bothered with petty
gambling cases.
At least Judge Kross discharged
five women and seven men card-play
ers who were brought in after a raid
on a private apartment.
Judge Kross didn’t spare any’ feel
ings when she told the policemen to
stop "snooping around—and get on
the trail of some real criminals.
"It’s the most disgraceful thing I
ever heard of,” she said. “Police has
no right to break into private homes
and disturb a friendly card game.
