Columbia Sentinel. ~T.V "baLLMIU ) Z~~ J. M. ATKINSON, I E HaRIKN, Oa.. Mir 20, IKHG. PRICK, Il 00, IN ADVANCE. EDITORIAL NOTES. Let the people eettlo the Gubernato rial question by primaries • • • Never aak a candidate to act m a judge of beauty in a baby ahow. In the match game of bane ball last Thutwlay, at (Jrovetown, the Harlem team got left. The Athena Banner name* our Plain Bill Tutt the "ailvery tongued orator of Georgia." Senator* Brown and Colquitt place ua under obligation* for important public documenta. The energetic tiller of the soil in more interested in the early and lat ter rain* than in politic* A moat ahocking tragedy occurred in Atlanta last Sunday in which Mr. R L Jones shot and killed Co). Frank P <irnv The people ahould ajieak through primanea ami not the *tcreotype<l , farce of maa* meetings a* ha* often been the case in the past. The storm of la*t Sat unlay was very severe in and around Macon. Pic nic parties, which seem to have been on a boom, had rather an exciting time. • • * Sound doctrine from the Sparta Ishmaelite: Il ih a poor, niggardly sort of a man that take* no interest or pride in county euterpriHCH Thons on the fence have a good time just now watching the paper* of thia State whoop up their res|>ective can indatcH, and if corroapondunt* are to Im> credited, every man is going to win Rev. S. C. McGahee, formerly a Baptist minister in the bounds of the Hephzibah Association, has Seen ex ,|>ellod from the Bnpti*t deiioinination for espousing the doctrine of the .Second Advent*. The storm king ha* been scattering •destruction in its pathway in many place* in tin* and foreign countrie* .luring the pre*unt month, which in the pant ha* been noted a* one ot the mildest month* of the year. The weather bureau will immortal ize itself, so to speak, if for the next few months it will arrange it so a* to give us plenty of rum. With this wo s-un very well put up with any good Jtomocrat for Governor. A requi*ite number of mime* have I been obtained petitioning the Ordi nary of tin* county to order an elec tion ujHin the prohibition question In advance it may be, but the Si.sti >*l. desire* to record its vote upon the ‘‘dry side" of the subject. A visit to McDuffie county, last Saturday, convinced us, a* we looked upon the growing crop of Mr. Wm. Radioed and the corn in hi* crib, to gether with the numerous stack* of fodder in his field*, that “there is more in the man than there is in the land.” Politics keep up a steady heat in the Republic of Columbia One can didate goes out in a certain direction for a few day* and very soon his op ponent follows, after which he returns declaring that he hits put out all the tracks of Ins comjwtitor. One good thing about it, it is all in the liest of spirit. With no many candidates in the field seeking Gubernatorial honors, .surely we ought to be able to get an other good man to succeed Gov. Mc- Daniel, who will leave the office with A sjxitleiw record. A* such he will need no vindication; Ins record speaks for itselt and it is one that lie will l>e able to point to with becoming pride. Just as we expected, one of our esteemed dailies has meddled with the decree against Dr. Armstrong until it has raised the ire of Bishop Beckwith, and if correctly reported be has made it his business to deal out some very plain language in the vase. It is right for new*pa}>ers to give the news, but when it comes to criticising the action of an ecclesiasti cal body for administering its discip line according to established laws, sooner <>r later a noise will be beard in the wilderness.
