A BOILIVG WELL
ANOTHER CURIOSITY NEAR HARLEM.
’ A boiling well has recently been
• discovered near Harlem. At the
’ earnest solicitation of Mr. John R
' Willingham, a reporter of the Senti
■ nel was induced to go out and view
the great curiosity. After about a
tlireo-quiirti'rs of a mile bare back
ride, wo dismounted at the well, mid
before wo had tied our stood a noise
could be distinctly heard down in the
well, resembling the sound of a swarm
.of bees. A glance down in the well
plainly showed that it was boiling fu
riously similar Io that of n pot, only n
great deal stronger A bucket was
let down, ns the crowd desired to
taste the water, when it relichod (lie
fop nil took n sip and pronounced it
good. A lighted torch was then let
down in the well to see if it. contain
od gas, but as no explosion took place
below it is evident there is no gas in
that well. This well was dug about
one year ago mid has boon acting like
other wells until about three weeks
ago, when it. began to boil mid has
continued to boil incessantly ever
since. We don't pretend to say we
know what causes the commotion,but
will leave the matter for some one
else to explain.

JIM IS A HIRD CASK
INI> SEEMS TO HOLD THE BOYS AT BAY
I'RKTTV well.
Rockmart. Slide : Jim Graham
has been raising Guin over the
mountain, about seven miles from
hero. Sunday about three weeks
ago, ho tilled himself up with
tangle-foot and went to the store
of Mr. Garner, which is near a
church house, and demanded oys
ters, crackers, etc. Mr. Garner
refused to open his store on Sun
day, but. James made him turn
over his key. Graham then re
quested several liy-stnndera to
walk in mid help themselves. He
opened the stole mid took wbat
he wanted, lie ran across a keg
of wine and refilled himself on it.
As er getting what be wanted in
the store lie pulled out bis pistol,
a pack of card* mid his money and
laid them on the steps mid said if
any one in the crowd wanted to
buck bis judgment to walk up ns
his money was laying thereto back
bis. No one, it seems, in the
crowd wished to buck ‘ his judg
ment’’ mid it somewhat riled Jim.
He jerked bis pistol up mid com
menced shooting and raising old
Nick generally. Tb« mutter run
along until lust week and the grand
jury took u bund in the matter.—
Th< y got a true bill against him
tor disturbing public worship.—
Buliff Mozely wus sent to nrreat
him, but he failed. Mozely found
Graham at home cutting his little
boy's hair off, and when he walked
up and told Graham his business
lie jumped into the bouse, jerked
up Lis pistol and told the bailiff
that, he would not go one step with
him. Mozely tried the persuasion
dodge on him lint it did not work.
After partying us long as ho want
ed to with the bailiff, Grahum
walked off backwards for some
distance down the mountain. Af
ter getting some distance from the
bailiff, Graham tired off his pistol
in the dji ectiou of the officer of the
law. Some one down the moun
tain answered Graham's tire, and
then he turned and bounded down
the mountain. The next day an
other bailiff was sent to arrest
Graham, but he is still at large.
