On last Friday eveniiu’ a difficulty arose between one William t ßowlea and Anderson Parks, both negroes, on the Belmount place, near Appling, iu which the former shot the latter twice, the first ball passed through the hips and the second one through the left leg, just below tho knee. It seems as if Anderson Parks lind been accused of stealing cotton and that William Bowles was a witness against him, and after tho trial on Friday morning before a Justice Court, Anderson was acquitted. Ho told Bowles ho could whip him a fair fight, whereupon Bowles drew a pis tol and commenced tiring. Sheriff L. L. Magruder being near at hand at the limo of tlie shooting arrested Bowles ami carried him to Applingimd lodged him in jail. While Anderson Parks wounds are not dangerous, yet they are very pain ful. Your reporter saw Anderson af ter the shooting and he seemed cheer ful. Bowles is said to be a bad ne gro. —Sleepless Nights, made miserable by I hat terrible cough. .Shiloh’s Cure is the remedy for you. For Hide by Dr. W. Z. Holliday, llnrleiu and Clarke Bros.. Dearing, Ga. I.HSIIRE VOLK LIFE IN THE STAUKTON LIFE ASSOCIATION OF VIRGINIA. Messrs. Hardy A. Ballard received on Saturday last a check for $3,006 for tho widow of Mr. Wm. Delano, whose life was insured only about six months ago, in the Staunton Life Association Ho had only paid out thirty dollars and eighteen cents and his widow yesterday received the check for three thousand. They also have another for the widow of Rev. •J. W. Hunter, of Jefferson county, near Mt. Moriah camp ground. Insurance is the safest plan of in vestment. A policy of life insurance is always an evidence of prudent forethought and no man with a de pendent family is free from reproach if his life is not insured. All mav by’ the exeition of a little forethought and a small outlay protect their fami lies from want independently of any charitable aid.
