EDITORIAL NOTES.
The Christmas turkey will be in
order in a few days.
Remember that Christman will
Boon be here ami the little ones are
looking for a visit from Santa Clans.
Good doctrine’from the Savannah
Local: Every <1 liar you invest in
printer's ink brings you value receiv
ed with interest.
A man in Michigan objected Io a
railroad passing through his planta
tion, and when the tracklayers began
work he shot two of the party.
We congratulate the Atlanta Jour
nal upon its marks of prosperity. It
will in a few weeks put in a press
with a capacity of 20,0(10 per hour.
According to the Journal, the Re
corder in Atlanta now imposes fines
as follows: “A plain drunk $5 and
an ornamental drunk from $lO to $25
according to the trimmings.
Savannah Local: It seems that
Yellow Stone Kit, tin- patent modi- I
cine fraud, influenced the negro vote
very materially in Atlanta, which :
gave success to the "wet” ticket. He
quit lieing about his medicines and
went to lieing about "red eje.”
A teacher in one of the public
Bchools of Atlanta ha 1 a difficulty I
with some of the boys in his school,
last week, in which he \. as finally
routed. Instead of abandoning the
school room ho should have flogged
the whole crowd engaged in the
disturbance. If ho had laid the rod
of correction on thick and fast it I
would have had a good effect upon
that crowd of rude boys. If teachers
allow themselves to bo run < ver by
those who are disposed to do as they
please in the school room, institutions
of learning had as well be closed up.
A SUGGESTIVE ITEM-
Editors Constitution: The reign of
crime and disorder under anti-prohi
bition began with thS murder of
Charnel Hightower, on election
night.
It has progressed up to Saturday
night when 53 arrests were made for I
drunkenness ami disorderly conduct.
Among these arrests were attempted
wife murders, cutting, shooting, ami
the station house was a perfect pan
demonium—a sight never equaled in
Atlanta.
This is the record with ten bar
rooms opened. In a month there
will boa hundred at work.
Two Sundays before the election
there was not an arrest made in \t
lanta on Saturday night or Sunday.
Two Sundays after the election there
were 53 arrests on Saturday night,
and the policemen testify that they
simply tilled the stationhouse and
left, unarrested many who were drunk
and disorderly. Let us keep the
record straight. X.
The above carries a commentary
upon its face Columbians look well '
to your interest.
