We will lie glad to have friends send us ail the news in respective localities. Eor the last week, Col. A. F. Daley has been feasting upon bard-headed cabbage, beans and cucumbers. Railroad meeting in next -Thursday, the 24th, “and yon forget it.” Wrightsville continues to grow; several new buildings will be erected at an early day. The boys are glad to hear that are soon to have some one to play “the devil” in this office. Should our worthy Sheriff to increase in corpulence, lie will soon he a fit subject for Barnum’s seum. The communication of _ throws light on the much muddled Senatorial question. Don’t fail to read it. Read the interesting communica¬ tion of “Citizen,” and let all their shoulders to the wheel, and build the road at once. The official advertisements of the various officers of Johnson county will hereafter be published in the Wrightsville Recorder. Wrightsville can boast of one of the largest and most flourishing Sun¬ day Schools in Georgia, if we take into consideration the size of our town. Our enterprising friends, Messrs. Mixon & Barnes, now have their saw mill in full blast, and will soon lie able to supply the great demand for lumber. Read all the advertisements in this issue and be benefited. We shall soon have something to say in refer¬ ence to each one, as lack of space now prevents. The Reading Club continues to prosper. This is an institution cal¬ culated to do much good, and we should by all means encourage our young friends by our attendance upon their meetings. No liquor sold in Johnson county. No county in the state making more rapid strides in the development of its vast resources. Churches are thickly reared. Crimes are stldomly committed, and the jail has become almost a useless appendage. A Good Companion. Moral Philosophy teaches us that the character receives a cast from those with whom we associate. If this princple he true, and no person can doubt its truth, how essential to our spiritual necessities, as well as, temporal enjoyments that we always select good companions. There is certainly no hotter companion than a well-conducted newspaper. We propose to make the Recorder a first-class weekly paper, worthy a place in every family circle. If you assist us in out efforts and give us your patronage, you will not only benefit us, but you will benefit your¬ selves, your families, your county and society at large. --» <«> ♦ Notice. The citizens of Johnson, Washing¬ ton and Laurens comities are re¬ quested to meet at the Court House in Wrightsville, on Thursday, the 27th instant, foj the purpose of agreeing upon some active move to¬ wards building the proposed railroad from Tonnille to Wrightsville and Dublin. Many Citizens. ---- Again we would call your atten tian to the big Railroad meetimg to be held at Wrightsville on the 27th inst, and would insist upon all persons interested in this grand en¬ terprise to be present at that time, and let’s take a pull, a heavy pull, a long pull and a pull altogether. --------• -440^- «--- Messrs. P. M. Johnson and W. R. Daley, Agents, Atlanta Nursery, paid their friends at home a passing visit a few days since. Sorry the boys left so soon, and no doubt sev¬ eral young ladies will unite with us in our expression of regret at their early departure. -• *--- I>r. Flanders has been on a fishing excursion, and informs us that he caught a fine chance. Judging from the fine chance of mud lie brought back on bis clothing, he might have crpfs.d what is known as “cow hell” in getting to the fishing place. Mr. B Berg, representing the pop¬ ular house of Schwed Siescl and Gibian Grocery merchants, Macon, Ga., makes frequent visits to our town, and by fair dealing lias secured for his bouse a most excellent trade with our m rchanl.s. General green has almost captured Josiah John Quincy Martin Van Buren’.s patch of corn in rear of our office. Plough your corn Joseph, we are afraid our visitors might think it belonged to us. ----— Mr. Hid Pughsley of the clothing house of I. L. Falk A Co., Savannah, Ga., was in town yerterday. Sid is a jolly good fellow and by the by the right man in the right place. --------•-■ The long-felt want of a grist mill in Wrightsville will soon be supplied, as Messrs Barnes & Mixon, will soon have one in successful operation. ♦ -*< We are pained to announce the death of Mr.-John R. Wilson’s little child, who died one day this week. - Wrightsville is certainly blessed with a good Postmaster, in the person of Mr. W. P. Hicks. He is prompt, efficient and well informed in the duties of his office. Let’s see who will bring us the largest watermelon this season. We will give for the largest melon one year’s subscription to the Recorder. NEW ADVERTI3EMENTS. Johnson Sherift’sSalcs.
