was. She said Mrs. Harris had sent

do to meet it.’
She replied: Tf you will I’ll sew

I subscribed for the paper. It
came in due time to the shop.
While resting and looking over it
I saw an advertisement of the Conn

$300, which enabled me to pay for
my house and lot easily, and for the

If I had not subscribed for the

anything about the contract, and
should not have met the payment of
my house and lot.
A mechanic never loses anything
(by taking a newspaper.
The Strongest Man in the World
The far West is teeming with
iprodigips of one kind or another.
Its latest acquisition is what it
claims to be the strongest man in the
world, who is an Italian, Angelo
Csrdela, aged thirty-five. He livtv
at livno, Nevada, is 5 ft. ten inches
high, weighs 190 pounds is a day la¬
borer, of temperate habits, has a
broad heavy good natured face, and
.extraordinary development of chest,
and large fleshy hands.
When stripped the most remarkable
feature is his spinal column, which
seems double and twice the usual
width while all his bones are very
large.
lie can lift, and lias repeatedly
lifted with oue finger (the third of
his sight baud,) men weighing from
no to •£00 pounds, by placing hi.
finger under the hollow of their feet
ami so carrying him around a room.
He can strike a blow with his list
.with tho power of 200 pounds, as
measured with a register.
Like most muscular men, he is
amiable of disposition, quiet in man
ner, and particularly fond of peace.
Deceived by appearance two fell up¬
on him lately. Cardela grasped one
in each hand, and knocked them to¬
gether until they were insensible
and half dead.
His strength is inherited—his fath¬
er wae as strong as he—for he has
done nothing more than ordinary
,work to develop it.
Loneliness.
Nothing is no dangerous to the
fninfl of the young as the habit of fee¬
ing lonely. Nothing ia more fraught
with peril and destruction, and
nothing is more conducive of utter
ruin. And it is to the thinking minds
—those most active and vigorous,
that we give this special warning.
There are jaqpe of us but at times are
affected more pr less, but he alone is
.conqueror and jv&hin the limits of
safety, whp pyerpomes this frightful

Jumping tup. Rofk. — The jump¬
ing rope is not an objectionable
plaything, but in the hands of girls
it is apt to be abused, and, as the
capering season will soon be at hand,
parents should be on their guard
especially to prevent their little girls
from jumping against time, or try¬
ing to see how many jumps they can
make without stopping or balking.
Dr. Ilcrvey, in a paper on the sub¬
ject, published in the .Statistical
Report of Indiana, says that he has
known death to ensue from this
practice, a girl of twelve years, one
of his own patients, having died from
heart disease and embolism, caused
by jumping Hve hundred times
without intermission. The heart is
not the only organ affected, by any
means, as the abdominal viscera very
often suffer, as well as the hip and
knee joints and the spine.

Sea Foam make* the best cookery.
Its strength is double that of any
other baking powder.
ft is on that account the cheapest.
One can of Sea Foam it worth three
of any other baking powder.
By the use of it, vour bread will be
equal to Fifth Avenue.
Your food will be the best.
Your health will be preserved.
Your daily work made easier.
Bread will be whiter and richer.
You will save a great deal of money.
By the vac of Sea Foam, a barrel of
flour makes forty pounds more bread.
Your bread, biscuit, and cukes trill be
always light if Sea Foam is used.
It is a new comfort for home.
It is pure, and not adulterated.
It is healthy for you and the children.
It is the perfection of science in|
cookery.
Your cookery will be always good.
You will always have a good cook. I
It makes every cook a good one. j
Your bread'will never be sour.
Chemists who have analyzed Sea Foam I
commend it.
Physicians who have experienced or
witnessed its health-promoting
properties, commend it.
Wholesale grocers al ways commend it.
Retail merchants who have introduced if
among their customers and noted its
wonderfully rapid sale, never fail to
commend it.
Husbands and fathers, whose wonder
and delight at the greatly improved
and uniformly good quality of the
bread and pastry have led them to
inquire the cause, arc loud in their
commendation of it.
Housekeepers who have once used it will
have no other, and thus most strongly
commend it.
Cooks whose best efforts with other
powders have failed, are jubilant
orer Sea I *am.
All over the country it is
UNIVERSALLY COMMENDED
Actually the. ladies of Georgia, where
Bea Foam has been introduced, are
now as noletl for their eecellenl bread
biscuits, corn-cakes, ami other rookery
as they hare always been for their
remarkable, beauty.
Nowhere in the world can l>e
letter bread, biscuit, ami cakes
than is produced bv these noble
Indies. There is a constant rivalry
among them to sec who shall
the best.
A ud not only is this the ease, but Ska
Foam adds to tiikiii beauty,/ or
health brings beauty, and nothing is
more conducive to good health than
light, nutritious bread , rakes, mid
jmstry, which Sr. A Foam tit ver
to make.
Sea Foam is for sale by all first-class
retail grocers in nearly every city.
If your grocer hasn’t it in stock, ami
is an obliging man, he will get it
for you. If, however, you are un¬
able to obtain it readily at home,
send for circular and price-list to
