LOCAL AFFAIRS.
—Captains \V. L. Johnson and J.
II. Hicks left for Atlanta last Tues¬
day.
—A man who talks a great deal
of himself generally has a poor sub¬
ject of conversation.
•—The Atlanta Constitution ad¬
vises the South to save her tears to
turn a cotton factory.
—Col. J. M. Stubbs, of Dublin,
passed through town this week, en
route for Savannah.
—Bishop Doggot, a distinguished
divine of the M. E. Church, South,
died last week in Richmond, Va.
—“Whiskey or no whiskey” is
now the issue in Washington and
Laurens counties.
—Sandersville needs a market
house and a city- hall, says the Mer¬
cury.
—Several new legal advertise¬
ments appear in this issue. Be sure
to read them.
—The people are anxious for an¬
other railroad meeting. Mr. Chair¬
man, please call a meeting at once.
—'file man who can tell it, but
don't know it, was in town this
week. Come again Doe., we are
always glad to see you.
— flVightsville needs a few more
store houses. Some of our enter¬
prising citizens should go to work
and build them at once.
—The fourth quarterly meeting
for the Wriglitsville circuit will be
held at Corinth on next Tuesday and
Wednesday.
—Thursday, the 25th day of this
month has been set apart as a nation¬
al thanksgiving day. The President’s
proclamation can be found in this
issue.
—Last Thursday was a big day—
a large crowd was in town, and a
considerable amount of property
was sold at public outcry.
—Hogs are not allowed to run at
large in the town of Wriglitsville.
This ordinance went into effect last
Thursday.
—Our old friend, Mr. Eli Bed
good, of Dublin, was in town this
week. Although he is advanced in
years, time seems to deal very gently
with him.
—We have had an abundance of
rain this week, the ground is thor¬
oughly wet and the streets are in a
wretched condition.
It was a severe blow, but we shall
endeavor to come again. Let us go
to work and develop our vast and
varied resources. Let us live at
home and board at the same place.
—The South Georgia Conference
of the M. K. Church, South, con¬
venes at Ilawkinsville on the 8th day
of December next. Bishop Pierce
will preside.
_The North Georgia Conference
of the M. E. Church, South, con¬
venes at Rome on the 1st day- of
December next. Bishop Paine to
preside.
—The cotton crop in this county
is all open, the farmers have taken
advantage of the beautiful weather
and have nearly finished picking it
out. The crop has yielded much
better than was once expected.
—The Georgia Legislature is in
session, organized and ready for the
transaction of such business as may
be brought before it. We need a
railroad from Wriglitsville to Ten
nille—now let us go to work and get
the charter.
—The Legislature is now in ses¬
sion and we suppose the official con¬
solidated returns of the vote for
Governor will soon be announced.

the meeting of the General Assembly

—A Special telegram, of Nov. 2,
from A Augusta, Ga., to the Savannah
ell's, says: At Johnstons, in South
Carolina, a riot occurred between
the whites and blacks. The latter
tried to seize the ballot box. One
negro was killed and three wounded.
A telegram has been received here
from Aiken stating that the negroes
have threatened to burn that town
to-night, and ask for assistance.
