LOCAL AFFAIRS.
—The spirit of improvement still
prevails.
—New buildings are being erected
an various parts of town.
—Read the new legal advertise¬
ments which appear in this issue.
—Dwellings and store houses are
in great demand, in fact, the demand
is greater than the supply.
—Miss Ann Walker, an accom
plished young lady of this county, is
now visiting friends and relatives in
our town.
—Mr. Joseph E. Page offers for
sale his desirable residence in
Wrightsville. Notice of the same
appears in this issue.
—Dr. Miller’s Female Pills are
highly spoken of by ladies who have
used them as being truly a blessing
to “Every Female”. Write and
jjet a circular.
—Telephonic communication with
Tenuill« would be a great conven¬
ience to our people. Let’s have a
Telephone from this place to Ten
nil le. What say yon?
—The Atlanta Comtitutiam, is one
of the leading newspapers of the
'South, one of the most ably edited,
and is, in fact, a power in the land.
Read its announcement, which ap¬
pears in this issue.
— Be are sorry to announce the
death of Mrs. Purnelle, who, after
ar illness of several weeks, died of
Typhoid fever on last Tuesday night
at the residence of her son, Mr. W.
T. Purnelle, of this place.
—A hearty welcome is extended
by a host cf friends, to Miss Minnie
Moore, who has just returned from a
lengthy visit to friends and relatives
in South Carolina. Miss Minnie’s
absence has been quite a loss to
Wrightsville society.
TUe need telegrapic or telephon
ic communication with Tennille—we
need more dwellings, more stores,
more people and more money. Let
us havea railroad from Wrightsville
to Tennille, and all these things shall
be added unto us.
—A , coal , famine . . prevails ...
now in
Atlanta, and the Co,Mutton
put L its shoulder to the wheel to have
the rt Georgia . v W , T estern . n Railroad i built
at once. m. The present , scarcity ,
coal in that city, demonstrates the
fact that the building of this road is
an absolute necessity.
A Sad Affair.
The saddest affair that has lately
taken place in this community, oc¬
curred last week, about three miles
from this place. A little bright
eyed boy, about five years of age,
the son of our friend Mr. James
W. Davis, while playing and running
around the yard with a sharp point¬
ed stick in his mouth accidentally
stumbled and fell upon his face.
(
The stick pierced his throat and
inflicted an ugly and severe wound,
from the effect of which, tetanus
was produced, and death soon came
to the relief of the little sufferer.
The grief stricken parents have our
heartfelt condolence in this their
sad affliction.
The Minstrels.
V
The young men of town, fifteen
in number, have organized a minstrel
troupe. They have ordered all ap
purtinances and will give one or
two performances during Christmas.
They will also, visit Wrightsville
during the holidays and give a per¬
formance. Their performances will
be hignly entertaining, having select¬
ed the best material, and such as
will stjr ve to make it a success. The
profits of the minstrels will be first,
to pay the balance due on the Cornet
Hand- The troupe will be called the
Butterfly Minstrel Troupe. The
citizens all should assist all they can
and the ladies especially can do so,
by lending assistance in making cur¬
tains etc .—Dublin Gazette.
—The attention of our readers is
called,to iithe advertisement of Prin¬
gle & : Orr, Sandersville, Ga. They
have a fine assortment of groceries,
provisions', hardware and general
merchandise, and litgke a specialty
of flour, meal, bacon, and general
plantation supplies: They are agents
for Eureka Mills, Sandersville, Ga.
The proprietor of these mills is an
enterprising man, and is making an
excellent quality of flour and meal.
Pringle & Orr have just received
two cars of choice Texas rust-proof
oats, a car of choice seed wheat,
and a lot of choice Georgia seed
rye. This is a strong and reliable
house and we recommend it to the
confidence of our people.

—At the last term of the Superior
court of Emanuel county, a negro
was sentenced to pay the extreme
penalty of the law for the murder of
another negro. The sentence we
suppose, was executed yesterday, in
Swainsboro. Some of the boys went
down, perhaps, for the purpose of
witnessing the execution or attend¬
ing a big hop at that place. For
what purpose they went, deponent
saith not, as the boys have not
yet returned.
-—Mr. D. L. McRae, representing
the. wholesale grocery house of Tins¬
ley Bro. & Co., Macon, Ga., was in
town this week. Mr. McRae repre¬
sents one of the largest and most
popular grocery houses in the State.
He is the right man in the right
place. His fair dealings, genial dis¬
position and suavity of manners have
rendered him quite a favorite w ith
our people.
—The most complete nuisance that
now coracs to our knowledge is the
bi S “ud hole in the street, just below
the residence of Mr. W. B. Snell, It
is almost impossible for pedestrians
to cross this miry place,in wet weath
erj w ithout wading through mud and
water nearly a foot deep. We hope
the town council will give this mat
ter fiieir immediate attention,
