For the past few days the weath¬

Beef continues to come in, and the

nected with the house of Arline &
Daley.
Mr. II. ,T. Young treated the prin¬
ters to a fine watermelon a few days

cotton was brought in town the first
of the week.

In consequence of the intensely
warm weather, there was a meagre
attendance of pupils at the opening
of the Wrightsville High School last
Monday.
Conductor L. A. Matthews, who
has been enjoying a few weeks’ fur¬
lough of rest and recuperation, will
resume his position on the W. «fc T.
and 1). & W. line next Sunday.
Dr. George McWhorter downed
all the boys in the hemming contest
at the. Rainbow party the other night,
and received the prize, a superb silk
handkerchief.
2#/’Now is the time to sow your
gardens for fall and winter crops.—
j. \V. Brinson has the most exten¬

kept in a country drug store.
Brother 1). B. Sweat, of t he Way

now until January for the small sum
of 25 cents. See notice to this effect
in another column.
The Recorder and family spent
the day with Will Anothonyand his
inti resting family last Sunday. Be¬
sides partaking of a good dinner, the
day throughout was spent pleasant¬
all.
Quite a pleasant and interesting
party was given at the residence of
Professor and Mrs. E. F. Marston on
Marcus street, Tuesday evening, in
honor of Miss Sallie Acree, of Ca¬
milla.
Nicholas Smith, master mechanic,
has recently erected a small work
shop near the depot, where he pro¬
poses, after a while, to assume big¬
ger proportions and give the people
of this section just what they want
and stand in need of—a first-class
machine and repair shop.
Two negro women had a fight on
the premises of Mr. William Harri¬
son, a few miles from town one day
last week. One of the beligcrants
got used up pretty smartly, and both
were summons to appear in Wrights*
ville Monday where they were tried
before a proper tribunal for such
cases.
Mr. Melton is running a general
repair shop two miles from this place,
outlie road leading to Tennille. lie
is a competent gin maker and repair
er . also repairs sewing machines in
workmanlike manner. lie is a relia¬
ble, (deserving man, entitled to a
generous patronage. Call on him.
Monday afternoon about 3 o’clock,
a dark and threatening cloud rose in
the southwest. Directly a stiff
breeze set in accompanied by rain.
The whole lasted several minutes,
the wind assuming scary proportions
before ceasing. A\ r e remembev dis¬
tinctly of having walked hurriedly
down from our high den in the Young
building in order to be nearer terra
firma I This is evidence sufficient
that the wind was lively.
Mr. A. T. Linder, the wide-awake
merchant and enterprising citizen,
will soon break dirt preparatory to
the erection of a commodious livery
stable, to be placed on the va¬
cant lot in the rear of his store Mr.
and Mrs. Linder know how to keep
a goad hotel—the best in the land
the drummers say—and it is quite
certain that Mr. L. will run a first
class stable in every respect, made
up of superb stock and good vehicles.
PERSONAL.
Col. A. F. Daley visited Gordon
yesterday on legal business.
Mr. AY. E. Watkins, of Sanders*
villa, was in Wrightsville Tuesday.
Bob Brinson visited relatives and
friends in Jefferson county this week.
Mr. Butterly still lingers among
the “breezes that blow among the
treeses” in North Georgia.
Mr. E. II. Blackshear, of Pulaski,
is visiting his mother, Mrs. I. M.
Blackshear, in Laurens county.
Mrs. L. A Matthews and children,
of Tennille are visiting relatives and
friends in Laurens county.
Mr. J. M. Blackshear, brother of
our clever citizen and railroad agent,
“Stout,” is in Laurens county, on a
visit to bis mother.
Airs. F. W. Daley returned home
yesterday from a visit to Jefferson
county. We arc glad to note an im¬
provement in her health and spirits.
Miss Sallie Acrvo, after a pleasant
visit of a few weeks in Wrightsville,
left yesterday to visit Tennille and

turu to her home at Camilla.
l)r. II. E. Ilyman, dentist, of Ten¬
nille, visited our town the first of
the week, and did a good deal of
work in his new and improved plan
in “extracting teeth without pain.”
Elder W. 1). Oliver returned home
Saturday. He lias been at Toombs
boro, in Wilkinson county, assisting
ing in a protracted meeting of the
Christian church at that place, lie
filled his regular appointment here
last Sunday, forenoon and evening.
Mr. E. S. Fortner brought to our
office Saturday a singular specimen
of corn-stalk, this year’s growth.—
About three feet from the top the
stalk separated, as it were, sending
forth two separate and distinct
joints, 3.V feet in length, each cap¬
ped with the usual full grown tassle.
AA r e would ask our friends not to
lose sight of our working men,
shop men, mechanics, etc. In the
Recorder will be found the names
and business of some of the best, viz:
J. AV. A. Crawford, whose shops are
near the depot, and J. T. LaVeigne,
located at the Kent corner. These
are each good, reliable men, masters
of their trade, and can and do put
up as good job in every respect as
any man or set of men in the State,
and just as reasonable—and perhaps
more so. So don’t go away from
home for your buggies, wagons,
plows, etc., but patronize borne en¬
terprise, just what you ought to do.

In a New Hole.
A\ r e see from the Macon Telegraph
that that distinguished drummer,
Capt. T. M. Brantley “has resigned
from tho fraternity of commercial
drummers,” and has taken the read
in the interest of the Equitable Life
Insurance Company. Well, all we
have to say to this is, Captain Tom
will make A No. otic insurance man,
and the Equitable has made a ten
strike in securing his services. He
is a man of much energy, and his
great popularity is universal through¬
out this as well as other sections of
Georgia. He has been on the road
for a number of years, in the intcr
erost of various leading bouses in
Georgia, during which time he also
represented several extensive estab¬
lishments North, with all of whom
he was immensely popular; and this
fact will make him “entirely at home”
in bis new line of business. AVe are
gratified to know that this will con¬
stitute a portion of Captain B.’s in¬
surance territory, and his friends
here will have the pleasure of seeing
him often around.

her husband, will soon be up again.

AVe are advised to caution our citizens
against disease, such as fever, etc., which
is likely to appear, more or less, during
this and next month. Caution is recom¬
mended in a good many ways. As, for
instance, lie temperate in diet; keep your
premises cleaned and in healthful condi
tion; use lime freely about the out houses,
yards and lots. Timely and constant at¬
tention thus given to the matter will prove
of great advantage just at this time and
doubtless bring good results. At any 'ate
v. e would advise our readers to be prudent
in all things pertaining to the physical wel¬
fare, and doubtless much distress and many
t doctors’ bills will be saved thereby.
The Rainbow Party.
The Rainbow party given at the residence
of Mr W. A. Tompkins last Friday eve¬
ning in honor of Miss May Bell Fay, was a
grand success. A "Rainbow Party" is
something quite new in our little city, espe
daily to the young men. All the young
ladies wore aprons ot different shades, and
the boys were expected to hem them.
After partaking *>f delicious refresh¬
ments, the needles were threaded, the
knots were tied and the work begun. Some
were awkward at first, but finally succeed¬
ed in hemming the aprons. The prize, a
beautiful silk handkerchief, was awarded
to I)r. G. W. McWhorter, his apron being
hemmed better than the others.
The young people all spent a most de¬
lightful evening, and are under many obli¬
gations to their kind friends, Mr. and Sirs.
