If the city of Macon, could be in¬
duced to organize a mob with as
much force and determination to
wipe out all the whiskey dens and
drinking saloons iu her midst, as that
which lynched the poor wretch, Jim
Moore; who confessed to his merci¬
less executors that if he committed
the terrible deed, lie was as drunk as
Bacchus and was unconcious of it.
It might to some extent atone for
the uncalled for lynching, which was
no doubt, agged on by mean whisky,
and which is condemned by all good
Christian people, and considered by
fair minded and disinterested parties
as the darkest deed ever recorded up¬
on the page of the history of Macon,
the beautiful central city so long no¬
ted for her halls of learning, the in¬
telligence and refinement of people,
the Christian influence wielded by
gifted divines over her crowded
churches Sabbath after Sabbath. The
crime if committed by the creature,
crazed from whisky upon a woman
called base and impure, is sufficient to
cause the angels of heaven to weep,
that man has fallen ro low. But when
the columns of widoni, justice and
moderation are knocked from under
a government based upon cliristianty
by a bloodthirsty and fiendish mob,
simply to satisfy their revenge upon
a drunken criminal, who was already
condemned in the sight of God and
man, it calls vivedly to mind the
dark ages and is as barbaric, and in
human as the victims crime itself,
and sooner or later a terrible retri¬
bution will over take those who par¬
ticipated in the -lawless mob. Bet¬
ter far had they exterminated their
whisky shops and thereby endeavor¬
ed to raise their fellow man from his
fallen and depraved condition, rath¬
er than have attempted to crush
crime with crime, two wrongs never
made one right, and as long as whis¬
ky exists in a civilized community it
will produce crime at which the fiend
of hell will howl with loud denounc
iation.

Burglary.
On last Saturday night, some uni nown
parties entered the dwelling of Mr. John 1).
Page, of this county, and took therefrom,
a large trunk in which he kept his money
and all liis papers. Inside of the large trunk
there was a small trunk, in which Mr. Page
kept his valuables. The burglarers, after
removing the large trunk some distance
from the dwelling, broke it open, took out
the small trunk and carried it off with all its
contents. It is supposed that Mr. Page had
about four hundred dollars in cash in the
trunk, besides all his notes, accounts, hpnl
papers, etc. Up to this time their is no clue
to the perpetrators. None of Mr. Page’s
land papers were upon record, except to
one place, hence, it is possible for him to he
greatly inconvenienced by the ioss he has
sustained.
