mint and
cheer the heart of hi nr who becomes
great in this world. See the old farm
er and h?S bvys. J tt» they shift things
around in early spring, perhaps they 1
are very tired over the thought of las;
years work for wiriclr they have no
gam; their hearts are heavy, because
the outlook is still discouraging. It’s
like a physician wlfo Inf# a severe ease
of Typhoid fever. He - administers
large doses of Antifebrile, aiffrt his pa¬
tient goes through a great sweat, after
vvliich the most proun neut system is,
that he seems to be a little weaker.
So it is with the old fanner' afrit his
boys. The result of last years svtent
ing has left them flnan Malty a fit tie
weaker:
So now they begin to say with p»m,
It's tiard for us to sweat again.
The result of which can only he,
Another blight in the financial tree.
Such a back ground as this can af~
fond but little pleasure until wa look
up and see that the old mocking bird,
the sweetest of all songsters usually
percb on a dead limb of the tree.
Yes brother farmer; let us work an¬
other year, the result 1 hope will be no
worse than in the past. If we make
no advance in our financial affairs, we
will have no dead limbs to which our
joy and comfort may cling. You know
when the joy of Heaven came to earth
it perched upon the dead bodies and
limbs of tlie human family to spread
out its comforting love. Only that,
which was dead, did he quicken with
his gladsome voice.
1 reinber some time ago, seeing in
t he Record, precious words in memory
of a soldier boy, written by his own
mother! of recent date, i saw another
sketch and I wanted to exclaim, O!
mother in Israeli for such I thought
tier to be, but if there had been no
dead iitnb upon which love in its
purity could light, perhaps there
would leave no such mauifestathm of
love from such a heart of blight.
Tlie moft? we love and cheerish our
dead ones while living, tlie greater
comfort and joy witti trtunmphant
victory, charming love,
O!
That never senses,

Monthly Report From G«n. Otis.
Among the reports submitted by
General Otis concerning the opera¬
tions of the army in Manilla, is
one from Col. Henry I,ippincott,
chief surgeon of the army for
March. Cot Lippeucott says:
“The long list of engagements
between our troops and the Filipi¬
nos continuing through the mouth
resulted in the following casual¬
ties to onr command ;
“Killed—Officers, 8; enlisted
men, 71.
“Died from wounds—Officers, 2;
enlisted men, 14.
"Wounded—Officers, IS; enlist
ed men, 485.
“Total casualties for tlie month,
590.
“Total casualties since outbreak,
1 , 020 .
“Our force has been much over¬
worked but nevertheless has met
every emergency.
“Major Crosby has put up ex¬
cellent lent wards, and tlie sur¬
veyor, Major Corbusier, has fur¬
nished abundant supplies of all
kinds at short notice. Consider¬
ing the work done and disadvan¬
tages we labor under, being so far
from our base, I can safely say
that the success in meeting all re¬
quirements this far has been mar¬
velous.
“The Filipino wounded still re¬
ceive tlie same kind attention they
have in the past, no efforts being
spureil to make them comfortable
and give them every chance for
recovery.”—Ex.

Discovered By A Woman.
Another great discovery has been
made, and that too, by a lady in Ibis
country, “Disease fusioned its clutch¬
es upon her and for seven years she
withstood its severest tests, but her
vital organs were imdenninded and
death seemed imminent. For three
months she coughed incessantly, and
could not sleep. She finally discovered
a way to recovery, by purchasing from
ns a bottle of Dr, King’s New Discov¬
ery for Consumption, and was so much
relieved on taking first dose, that she
slept nil night; and with two bottles,
has been absolutely cured. Her name
is Mrs. Luther Lutz- Thus writes XV.
