Mr. Erle B. Askew, of St. Peters
burg, Fla., were in Newton attending
to business Saturday morning while
enroute from a visit to his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Askew, Sr., of Ar
lington, Ga. Mr. Askew is a former
Baker county boy, having made quite
a success as a lawyer and is a member
of one of St. Petersburg’s largest and
ablest law firms.

An announcement of much interest
to their many friends is that of the
marriage of Miss Agnes Lee Bates
to Mr. R. F. Bullard, Jr., of Camilla,
which was solemnized Sunday even
ing, May 21st, at the Methodist par
sonage in Bainbridge. The pastor,
the Rev. Mr. Potterfield, officiated at
the ceremony, which was witnessed
by a few close friends and relatives.
Mrs. Bullard is the eldest daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Bates. She!
is a sister of Mrs. M. C. Screws, Jr., |
of Newton and little Betty Jean Bates, j
Mr. Bullard is the eldest son of j
Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Bullard, of Ca
milla. He is the brother of Messrs.
Charlie Bullard of Atlanta, Kelly Bul
lard of Pelham, and Joe Bullard of Ca
milla. His sisters are Mrs. Lewis
Rivers of Camilla, Mrs. H. E. McKin
non of Cairo, Mrs. Walton Freeman
of Doerun, Mrs. A. W. Pledger of
Chattanooga, Tenn.
The couple will make their home in
Camilla.

Thursday with Mrs. Sallie Woodard.
Mrs. J. E. Griffin entertained a
group of children with a picnic lunch
and swim at the mill on Friday after
noon.
Mrs. Bill Kidd, who has been with.
Davison’s in Atlanta for some time,
arrived on Sunday to make her home
in Elmodel where Mr. Kidd is operat
ing a filling station and lunch room.
A cordial welcome is extended to Mrs.
Kidd.
. Frank Cotton, of Live Oak, Fla.,
is spending some time with his grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Cotton.
Miss Muriel Duke, of Augusta, ar
rived on Thursday afternoon to be
present at the graduation of Edith
and Robert E. Duke in Elmodel on
Thursday night. She is spending the
week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
W. L. Duke, of Damascus.
Mrs. Minnie Lou Parr was shop
ping in Albany Thursday.
Friends of Mrs. Mary Adams are
sorry to learn of her misfortune in
breaking her left arm in a fall.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Rooks, of Beth
any, Mr. and Mrs. Emmit Duke and
Mrs. W. L. Duke, of Damascus, and
Mrs. E. A. Twitty, of Elmodel, called
on Mrs. Mary Adams on Wednesday
afternoon.
Mr. E. A. Ethridge is spending some
time with his daughter, Mrs. Henry
Houston, of near Colquitt.
Mrs. L. C. Parrish, W. J. Starr, J.
H. Cotton went to Pavo on Wednes-

Mrs. Clarence Weatherby and Mrs.
O. F. Thompson, of Blakely, brought
Miss Emma Lee Wiley home on
Thursday afternoon. They stayed over
for the graduating exercises at El
model that night as Wessie Dell Wi
ley, Mrs. Thompson’s sister, was one
of the graduates.
A congenial party enjoyed a fish
fry at Ivey’s Mill on Thursday night.
