Gardner Appoints
Two Commissioners
Judge B. C. Gardner, of Camilla,
made two new appointments to the
Jury Commissioners here Monday
afternoon. These appointments were
made by reason of the fact that by
oversight the Elmodel District did
not have a representative on this im
portant body and also due to the fact i
that Mr. W. 0. Lunsford’s time had
expired some time ago and a new ap
pointment had not been made. Those
appointments made were P. H. Thomp
son, Jr., of the Milford District, to
succeed Mr. W. 0. Lunsford whose
time had expired, and Mr. Roy Brooks
was appointed from the Elmodel Dis
trict.
It was ordered at the same time
that these new appointees along with
the other members of the Jury Com
mission be notified to meet at an
early date and revise each of the Jury
boxes, both Grand Petit Jury, and at
the same time a jury will be drawn
to serve at the January Term, 1940,
of Baker Superior Court.

Why is it true that the celebration of Christmas is world-wide? To answer this query it is only
necessary to reflect that the annual Christmas season marks that event in all history most important
to our world.
“Glory to the new-born King” was sung above the Judean hills; but the message was for the
people of every nation. Long had human hearts anticipated His coming, because the load that He
came to lift was too heavy to be borne.
And for this cause was He born of Mary, and in the manger at Bethlehem, that the poorest and
humblest might rejoice in His birth. In Him dwell richly that humility and meekness dearer to human
hearts than any robes of purple or crowns of gold.
“Christ, the Savior, is born” has never ceased, in all these years since His incarnation, to re
sound and re-echo throughout the ages the declaration that man has a Redeemer, and so human hearts
everywhere rejoice.
In taken of His royalty they brought Him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh. That the
rich might hear His voice and enter in, the kings of the Orient brought their treasures. That the poor
might know that he seeks the forlorn and forsaken the story of His advent was told to the shepherds
on the hills in the song of the angels.
And so we bring gifts to others on this Christmas Day. Because of the rich blessing of His
grace we seek to repeat the message of love.
Is it too much to hope on December the twenty-fifth, nineteen hundred and thirty-nine that
the miracle of redemption may be repeated?? Our loads are so heavy! Our sins are so great! Our
wars are so staggering and brutal.
“Peace On Earth” the angels sang. In every heart in all the nations—be they friend or foe—
may this prayer live and burn.
