Crowned 1968
Miss BCHS
Miss Vicki Jones, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Jones of
Pembroke, was crowned Miss
Bryan County High School for
1968, Saturday night, April 25,
at the BCHS Auditorium.
First Runner up in the an
nual Jaycee-sponsored BCHS
Beauty Review was Miss Car
ter Harn, daughter of Mrs.
Aileen B. Harn of Pembroke.
Second runner up was Miss
Clara Louise Carter, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Carter of
Pembroke.
The three finalist were chos
en from a group of 24 girls
dressed in formal evening wear
and were judged on beauty,
poise, and personality. •
Miss Jones, a high school
junior, is a member of the Pep
Club, the FHA, and the 4-H
Club. Miss Harn, a freshman,
is active in the FHA, and 4-H
clubs, and is also a Cheerlead
er for the Bryan Redskins. Miss
Carter, an eleventh grader, is
a member of the debate team
and is active in declamation
and FHA.
After viewing each of the 24
entrees, the judges. Miss Jan
nie Dodson, Physical Education
Instructor at Georgia Southern
College, Statesboro. Lt. Col.
Miller, of Ft. Stewart, and Mr.
Gene Brewton, past president
of Savannah Jaycees of Savan
nah, eliminated 14 contestants.
The remaining ten finalists
included Patricia Cowart. Car
ter Harn, Vicki Jones. Gail
Glisson. Clara Louise Caiter,
Margie Nolan, Sharon Ann
Jones, Charlotte Winter, Janice
Butler, and Brenda Gail Wilkes.
The five finalists chosen
from the above ten were Char-
lotte Winter, Brenda Gail
Wilkes. Carter Harn, Vicki
Jones and Clara Louise Carter.
These young ladies were each
asked a question by Masters of
Ceremonies Jim Hite and Gary
Brinson.

Miss Bryan County High
School then presented each of
the runners up with a single
red rose and relinquished her
crown to the new reigning
queen. Miss Vicki Jones,
The welcome was given by
P e m broke Jaycee President
Gene Cowart who expressed his
appreciation to al Ithose who
contributed time and talent to
the Pageant. He then turned
the program over to Jim Hite
and Gary Brinson, Masters of
Ceremonies.
Entertainment was furnished
by The Tender Loving Cares,
an outstanding local band com
posed of five high school stu
dents. Members of the band
are Phil Odom, base guitar,
Harmon Jones, drums, J. 0.
Wilson, lead guitar and vocal
ist, David Blitch, organ, and
Kenny Frost, rhythm guitar.
Addi ti o nal entertainment
was furnished by the Mutan
ny’s, a group of Jaycees from
Port Wentworth who specialize
in Pantomime, led by Mr. Fred
die Johnson.

Chapter 288
Installs Officers
Mrs. Catherine Parker and
Mr. Clarence Blackwelder were
installed as Worthy Matron and
Patron respectively in the 26th
Installation Ceremony of
Martha Mary Chapter 288 OES
on April 24th at the Masonic
Temple in Richmond Hill. This

Chapter room was lovely in ar
rangements of Red Roses, her
Flower and Color for the year.

mother of the Matron and wife
of the Patron installed this
. team along with the Sweet
hearts. Frances Blackwelder
and Carolyn Parker, and Mas
cots Alan and Gary Blackweld
er. She also presented her
daughter WM with a beauti
ful gavel a gift of her Hus
bands Grandmother on behalf
of Mr. R. Parker.

The incoming Worthy Ma-
tron and Patron were honored
in a program “The Wiles and
Woes” of a Worthy Matron and
Patron and presented gifts.
After her address. Mrs. Black
welder, Mrs. Parker with a
Bouquet of red roses from the
sweethearts and Mascots at
which time Mrs. Gardner Gill
sang “His Eye is on the Spar
row” and “I Believe” accom
panied by Mrs. Janie Lou Getz.
Mrs Parker presented gifts
to her installing officers and
Mrs. Hobbs presented gifts to
her officers of the past year.
The Chapter Room was fill
. ed with sisters, brothers, rela
, tives and friends. Chapters rep
resented were Pembroke. Gar
, den Citv. Hinesville and all
, Savannah Chapters.
A Past Patrons Jewel was
. presented Bro. Carpenter by
his wife from the Chapter and
a Worthy Matron Jewel was
. pinned on Mrs. Parker by Mrs.
• Hobbs, Past Matron.
Mrs. Hobbs being a repeat
having a Past Matrons Jewel
asked that the amount of her
pin be given for the purchase
of a cooker for the Chapter.
Thank You
I would like to thank all my
friends and relatives for the
many kindnesses extended to
me during my week long stay
in the hospital last week.
The lovely cards, flowers and
prayers were very much appre
ciated. Thank you all for the
kind thoughts and interest
shown me while there.
