God's Abundance
Psalm 65
The entire human race de
pends upon the abundance of
God for a livelihood. With
out God’s plentiful supply of
rain and sunshine there would
be mass starvation upon the
face of the earth. The very
air we breathe is made by
God. Many of the every day
gifts we receive from God’s
store house of abundance we
take for granted. We never
take time to thank God for
these blessings. Before the
weekend of May 19, the Pem
broke area was suffering for
water. The land was dry and
thirsty. The gardens and field
crops were wilting because of
lack of water. On this parti
cular weekend the area re
ceived several inches of rain.
The gardens and field crops
have received a new lease on
life; The people are now mak
ing preparation for large har
vest. But the question is, “how
many of us have really offer
ed thanks to God for His
abundant blessings on us?’
I know that we are all thank
ful but, have we stopped tc
thank the One responsible for
the blessings.
The Psalmist in this Psalm
is giving thanks, in prayer and
song, for the abundance of
God’s blessings. He praises
God for the good things of
life. He reaches the peak of
his praise toward God in
verses eleven through thir
teen. “Thou crownest the
year with thy goodness: And
thy paths drop fatness. They
drop upon the pastures of the
clothed with flocks; The val
leys also are covered over
with grain; They shout for
joy, they also sing.” The
Psalmist is saying in these
verses, the abundance of God’s
blessings can be seen every
where one looks. If we would
only take time to look, we
would see and know of God's
goodness. He has been merci
ful to an ungrateful people.
Now is the time for all of
us to thank and praise God
for His abundance and good
ness. The Psalmist took time
to look and his heart was fill
ed with a song of praise for
the abundance of God’s mer
cies.

The Mayor's
-
Trip To
-
Washington
Yes, we made it to Wash
ington and back, and accom
plished some of the things that
we wished to do. However
it was about as “hectic” a
trip as we have ever made
anywhere. :
~ To start with the assassina
tion of Robert Kennedy had
turned things “topsy turvy”
in Washington, and it looks
‘as if the same was true
throughout the world. Never
have we seen such a “to do”
over the death, the arrange
ments of his burial, and get
ting from New York to Wash
ington, and having the fun
eral in Arlington Cemetery
hours after dark.
The capital offices of the
Senators, Congressmen and
ail high oficials closed down
Thursday evening, and many
of the restaurants in Washing
ton was closed on Friday in
memory of the late Senator
Robert Kennedy.
And we want you to know
that we “passed” Ressurec
tion City, and it was some
thing to be seen, the Poor
People was being well look
ed after, as every entrance to
Resurrection City had from
10 to 20 police officers around
the clock keeping things in
shape.
Everything was being done
to keep the ‘‘situation under
control”, but every person
that we talked to said it was
a great mistake to ever allow
ed Resurrection City to be
built and the “poor people”
allowed to camp out in the
most beautiful section in
Washington.
We had a wonderful trip to
and from Washington aboard
the New Jets that National
airlines fly from Savannah to
New York and back each day.
It is a “Whopper” to start
with, fast as all get out, and
the service, if you travel first
class is out of this world, they
wine you and dine you like
you were a king. Os course
your Mayor missed nothing
and enjoyed the trip, even *o
the good looking little host
esses.

Be Closed On
June 20-21-22
The Pembroke Journal office
will be closed three days next
week, June 20, 21, and 22. The
editor and his wife will be in
attendance of the Annual Meet
ing of the Georgia Press Asso
ciation at Callaway Gardens, if
there is need for anyone to
contact us we will be at the
Holiday Inn of Callaway Gar
dens, located at Pine Mountain,
Georgia,
We have been attending
these conventions each year
when possible for us to go for
more than 50 years. It is a fine
thing for people who have the
same business and the same
problems to get together and
discuss these problems, and
also mix a little fun and énter
tainment along with it.
This will be our first trip to
Callaway Gardens, therefore
we look forward to a very
pleasant trip.
This will be the only vaca
tion that we will take this
year, and after two “old peo
ple” like Ye Editor and his
wife have worked as hard as
both of us do to make the dead
line each week, we think it will
be good for us and that it is
deserved by the two of us.

Hagan For
Congress
As has been expected for
some time the Republicans
have nominated Joe Tribble of
Savannah as their standard
bearer for Congress to try and
take the job away from the
Democrat Hon. G. Elliott Hag
an.
As usual it will be an inter
esting race to say the least.
These Savannah bullies not
only want to control the Con
gressman that represents all 20
counties, (or should do so), but
they want him (or her) to live
in Savannah, and be owned
body and soul by the powers
that be in Savannah, and not
caring a tikers dam about the
rest of the District.
Savannah could be a great
city, it has all the natural ad
vantages to be one, but until
they change their attitude to
wards their “country cousins,”
they are not going to get any
where,
We predict a thorough skin
ning on the little lady from
Savannah who is in the race in
September as a Democratic
opponent for Congressman
Hagan, and then another “skin
ning” of a Savannah candidate
in the November election when
he will have to face the Re
publican candidate.
A Busy Man
Congressman G. Elliott Ha
gan can personally testify to
the hectic life of Washington!
In May, office records show,
Congressman Hagan handled
an average of fifty calls per
day and answered an average
of one hundred letters per day
from constitutents, regardless
of party affiliation. He also
managed fiVe trips to the First
District.
