Fertilize Pecans
Bryan County home owners
interested in fertilizing pecans
may use the following as a
guide.
Pecan tree buds begin enlarg
ing and making new leaves and
1 stems about the first of April.
I Os course, this varies some
• from year to year.
Fertilizer should be applied
to pecan trees about six weeks
before this growth begins. That
means about February 15.
Actually, the fertilizing chore
is not quite this critical. It can
be done anytime this mon t h
and next. The important thing
is to see that pecan trees get
plant food a few weeks before
growth begins.
| General recommendations call
for 5-10-15. The correct rate
per tree is three pounds of fer
itlizer per inch in trunk diam
eter. Os course, a soil sample
