Mrs. Gene Sanders of
Pembroke returned fr
om the Candler Telfair
Hospital in Savannah
Monday, May 18. She
had re-entered the hos
pital on Thursday, May
14, after first being re
leased on May 13 foll
owing the birth of her
son.
Mrs. Sanders was
treated for a skin dis
order and is now much
improved.
Mr. and Mrs. John
Stubbs and daughter,
Amy were guests during
the weekend of LCDR
and Mrs. R.J. Spain of
Jacksonville, Fla. Mrs.
Spain and Mrs. Stubbs
were room mates at
Georgia Southern Col
lege.

Award Recently

MISS MARIA MYERS
Mrs. A. C. Wright, local
chairman of the National Guild
of Piano Teachers, announces
that 88 candidates successfully
passed examinations for hon
ors in the 16th annual Piano
Playing Tournament held at
Savannah State College. Mrs.
Raymond C. Smith from Lake
land, Florida, judged all candi
dates on individual merit.
Maria Myers auditioned and
successfully scored 96 in the
Intermediate class. She has
been a member of the organi
zation for three years and has
scored no lower than 96 each
year.
The first year she memoriz
ed seven compositions by vari
ous composers and became a
slate winner. The second year
she became an International
winner by playing five complete
Sonatinas, receiving both Sona
tina and Sounder’s metals. This
year her program consisted of
fifteen Bach pieces and has
been recommended for a Bach
metal.
Maria serves as pianist for
two church choirs in her spare
time and has recently begun
organ lessons. She is an hon
or student at Richmond Hill
High School, an exceptionally
high achiever, and a member
of the Junior Class.
