That there are possibilities in cotton culture far beyond those suggested by the present scarcity of the fibre, is without question. The present consumption of cot¬ ton in the world is 13,604,000 bales of 500 pounds each, per an¬ num. It has been estimated that if the people of the world who'^go naked, or only partially clothe themselves, could be induced to dress themselves the consumption of cotton in the world is 13,640, 000 bales of 500 pounds each per annum. It has been estimated that if the people of the world who go naked, or only partially clothe themselves, could be in -duced to fully dress themselves, the consumption of cotton would increase 42,000,000 bales of 500 pounds each yearly. These fig¬ ures indicate the field there is for the increased use of cotton, says the Cotton Trade journal. Early in the 19th century, the United States took her place as the great cotton producing coun¬ try. Wool and flax were soon beaten in the race with cotton, and gradually the older cotton producing countries were super¬ seded, Brazil "and Turkey gave up the contest after our wai, and the West Indies shortly after the war of 1812. Egypt has slowly increased her production to about 1,124,000 bales per year, but this cotton is not a competitor of our fibre. Tho East Indies, which produced more than 1,000,000 bales per annum during our Civil War and 1,510,000 in 1890 has decreased to less than half the latter amount, which is far below the requirements of the country. There is no reason why cotton should not be grown in ail these country. Each one offers a good field for the propagating socie¬ ties. But if there should be a largo increase in the growth of cotton outside the United States, that would simply make this country a greater cotton manu¬ facturer. This nation provides the raw cotton for half the manu¬ factured material used by the hu¬ man race. England, as a great manufacturer, absorbs one-third of our crop, but it is* plain that if England shou.kl succeed- in getting her supply from other sources that we would not stop growing cotton. The continent of Europe has since 1890, consumed more cotton than England, and in recent years very much more, and in 1903 its consumption has been equivalent to one-half tho pro¬ duction of the United States. The increase in the use of cot¬ ton products, especially in eas tern countries, gives promise that the requirements of the world will continue ’ to grow perhaps with much rapidity in the decade. Do You Want Strength. § * It' you want to increase your strength you must add to and not take from the physical. In other words, the food that you eat must be digested, assimilated and appropriated by the nerves, blood and tissues before being expelled from the intestines. Kodol Dyspepsia Cure adds to the physical. It- gives strength to and builds up strength in the human system. It is pleasant to the taste and palatable, and the only combination of digestants that will digest the food- and enable the system to appropriate all of its health and strength-giving qualities Sold by Lewis Drug Co. The way is wide open for every negro who wishes to do so to be¬ come a farmer and landowner; and when a negro is a farmer and a landownev ninety nine times out of a hundred he is a respectable and worthy citizen. One of his kind is worth a hund¬ red of the floating, irresponsible element filling the police courts and the chaingang.—Morning News. A Sketch of the Editor. Says a knowing writer; “A editor is a millionare without money, a congressman without a job, a king without a throne. He constructs without a hammer or saw, builds a railroad without rails or spikes, and farms without a plow. He runs a butcher shop in the journalistic world and deals out brains for cash or Credit. He loves those who advertise with him as a brother. The editor is a teacher, a lawyer, a preacher; he sends truth out to save oouls and gets lost himself. He heals the wounded, cares for the dying, rescues the perisbing, and then starves himself when a ham sand¬ wich of kindness would jerk him from the jaws of death. Proper Treatment of Pneumonia. Pneumonia is too dangerous a disease for anyone to attempt to doctor himself, although he may have the proper always reme¬ dies at hand. A physician should be called. It should be borne in mind, however, that pneumonia always results from a cold or from an attack of cold or from an attack of the grip, and that by giving threatened Chamberlain's of Cough Remedy the ho attack pneumonia may warded off. This remedy is also used by physicians in the treatment of pneumo¬ W. J. nia with the best results. Dr. Smith, of Sanders, Ala., who is also a druggist, says of it: “I have been sell¬ ing prescribing Chamberlain’s-Cough Remedy and it in my practice for the past six years. I use it in cases of pneu¬ monia and have always gotten the best results.” Sold by Lewis Drug Company. The Atlanta Journal’s idea that Southern Democrats should go to St. Louis to accept any nomi¬ nee that the New York delega¬ tion may prefer is a pretty fair sample of unmitigated political flunkyism. If that is to be the idea, the southern delegate would better sfca,, at bonus.—Ishmae iite. Mr. Cleveland is certainly not seeking the democratic nomina¬ tion, but unless the signs are un¬ usually deceptive, the domina¬ tion is right after him.—Bain bridge Democrat. The Name Witch Haze!.
