OUR SENATOR.
A Strong Endorsement of Hon.
J L. Hand.
Editor Enterprise :
As a citizen of Mitchell c ninty,
who feels a deep interest in her
affairs, I wish space in your col¬
umns to endorse the candidacy
of Hon. J. L. Hand for Senate
Will anyone gainsay th° prop¬
osition that Mr. Hand is talen¬
ted? Or does anyone doubt that
as a business man he is a suc¬
cess? Will anyone say that he
is lacking in energy? Does any¬
one question his character? Or
is anyone skeptical as to his ti
delity to duty? If any of these
questions arise in the minds of
the patriotic voter let him turn
to the picture presented by Mr.
Hand’s life work in our midst
and there find complete answers.
The organization and system
evinced by the successful man¬
agement of the many enterprises
in our county cf which he is the
head proclaim his talent and
business ability, the melodious
hum of factory wheels and the
exultant blasts of mill whistles
carry the welcome thought of
good pay-i’olls to the honest la¬
borer, and the glad news of
pi ogress and prosperity to the
outside world. On the farm, in
the store, in the factory, in the
counting room, in the council of
party and State he is at home.
He believes in the system of
laws which will bring the great
est good to the masses of the
people, and is distinctly upon
record as opposing anything
that approaches class legislation
or any infringement of the rights
of the great body of the people.
His fight some years ago, before
the Interstate Commerce Com¬
mission, in an effort to secure
better freight rates for our sec
tion, has saved our people thous*
ands of dollars.
In view of his talent, ability,
honesty, energy, devotion to duty,
and patriotism, let us avail our¬
selves of his valuable services by
sending him as our representa¬
tive in the Senate. By doing so
we will reap benefits for our¬
selves and earn the gratitude of
the people of Georgia.
Voter.
For Hon. J. L. Hand.
Editor Enterprise :~Ou r Rep¬
resentatives should be represen¬
tative of the people of our coun¬
ty. They are sent out to the
world and so proclaimed as be¬
ing the best of our manhood and
citizenship. We should send
men of whom we should be dis¬
tinctly proud.
When we send Hon. J. L. Hand
to the Senate we will have such a
man to represent us. He is well
educated, intelligent, energetic,
enterprising, thoughtful, tem¬
perate, conservative, and honest.
He will be a strong and influen¬
tial member of our Legislature
and will show to the people of
Georgia what sort of people we
have in Mitchell County. He
will do good and effective work
for our District and for the state
of Georgia. Citizen.
A Card to the Public.
We notice, in a dodger being
circulated in the interest of Mr.
Maples, that it is insinuated that
J. L. Hand was responsible for
the operation of the Pelham Dis¬
pensary, which matter was car¬
ried to the Supreme court for ad¬
judication and in justice to him,
we feel it to be our duty to say
that when the measure came be¬
fore the council, J. L. Hand vot¬
ed against it.

Hand for Senate.
Bainbridge Search Light, April 8tli.
In reply to a petition Request¬
ing him to enter the race for the
senate from this the eighth dis¬
trict Hon. J. L. Hand, of Pelham,
has announced his intention of
doing so. This information will
be received with pleasure by Mr.
Hand’s friends in this county
where he is well known. Mr.
Hand has served the people of
this district with distinction in
years gone by and if he i9 again
selected by the democrats of
Mitchell county, there is no doubt
that the voters of Decatur
ty will take groat pleasure in en¬
dorsing the selection.
Our Next Senator.
From Bainbridge Democrat, April 7.
Hon. Judson L. Han$l, of Pel¬
ham, at the earnest solicitation of
his friends in Mitchell county,
will be Mitchell’s choice to present
to the next Senatorial Convention
of the 8th Senatorial District, and
this being Mitchell’s time under
the rotation rule to name the
senator—Decatur county will
cheerfully—as no doubt will Mil¬
ler—support him and Senator
Hand will be nominated by ac¬
clamation.
No better man could be chosen
in the limits of the District.
